Thread regarding Lumen Technologies layoffs

Stock price

Not that I’m upset. Just confused. Why is our stock rising all of a sudden. 1.82??

Ive got my puts ready to sell during the reactionary drop when Q2 numbers are announced.

MS is Lumen’s big brother they are running the show in the shadows

Yeah, MS funded maybe a one month project to explore all the ways MS CoPilot could be used and to be honest, the results were not impressive. It was more of a charge code for those without enough to do and the people spent the budget, which helped Lumen avoid even more layoffs.

The funny thing is Azure cloud is used within Lumen very little overall. They were still using Google Cloud in mass markets and AWS in other areas also. It depends which part of the lumen world your talking about, the shared vision is all the clouds, even though the right answer is none of them.

So while I wish the company the best ... neither the cloud or AI makes much sense to this legacy telco. Again, Lumen is great at pretending to be someone they are not and not so good and being realistic about who they actually are.

Where's all the naysayers?
It's so quiet on here when Lumen is doing good?

Obviously you not a trader. The short position on LUMN is absurd. If you don't know what that means then good for you. You should really buy a bunch of stock right now.

The STOCK is doing good temporarily based on a deal with the term AI in it.

But is the company now all of a sudden doing good? Don't kid yourself. Lots of people currently paying $4 for LUMN stock will be holding big bags soon enough.

"With the huge short volume the last 2 days and potentially cr-ppy Q2 numbers, the stock will tumble a bit. Once it starts falling, expect the profit taking to begin and shorts to bring it down to under $2."

That's fine, it's not going to go up every day forever. Though I don't think anybody is expecting a good Q2, only increased EBITDA over Q1 as promised. Much more important will be the management discussion and any insight into future deals and how the sales funnels are filling up. I expect that the MSFT announcement has put Lumen on the map of a whole swath of potential customers. Sales team must be very busy right now, and it's this kind of environment that enables pricing power.

"The world now knows that this is now an AI-enabling company."

I dont disagree with you. Good things are coming on the horizon, but not yet.

The world now knows that this is now an AI-enabling company. As I said before to everyone complaining about the lack of attention to the copper POTS business - it's dying and nobody cares and it's absurd to judge the company based on this part of the business. Look at what they're doing in the actual growth areas. These MSFT and Corning deals are big and there's clearly more to come.

"As stated, insider trading…."

By your definition, any executive buying shares on the open market is insider trading. Nonsensical, but I guess we're reaching the stage where the bears are desperate to find something negative to bring up.

Steak and lobster tonight! Took a small portion off the table, and holding the rest for $10+. This company is going to allow me to retire early :)

"Like others said, someone knows something. Interested in the earnings call next week as lumn up to 2.82 now. Feeling we're not done with announcements. "

Its up over 3 now. But I think thats reflective of the positive reaction to the Corning deal.
This was not a healthy company a couple of weeks ago when the stock was at $1. It hasnt become a healthy company overnight after signing a deal with MSFT. Theres lots of work still left to be done.
I keep hearing from sales that Q2 is not going to be good, and they should know, eh? So I think the Q2 numbers are going to remind people of that, and the stock drops a bit (and the shorts will come back to help). And if they miss targets? Look out below!
It wont go back to $1....but under $2 is a definite possibility.
For the immediate future, its probably a good time to buy some puts for when reality sets in next week. ;)

As stated, insider trading….

“ I believe the board forced Kate and CS to buy shares when it was low to prop up the stock. However, KJ and CS know what strategy Lumen is attempting to carry out which is insider knowledge...so when KJ threw 1.5 million or so at it, she knew it wasnt a bad investment....knowing that working with MSFT was a thing she was in the process of pursuing.”

They knew the game plan, firsthand, and should be strung up!

I find the thumbs down 👎 to the remark made below is made by an ignorant individual who has no idea what employees are experiencing or someone who cares a less.

You would think that with the stock price going up that the cheap A company would give the hard working employees a merit increase. Very doubtful!

It’s the Corning announcement from their earnings call today. Lumen is purchasing 10% of their fiber output for the next two years. Seems intrinsically tied to the recent Microsoft announcement.

A selloff of MM only makes sense as a prelude to an acquisition by a buyer that doesn't want a regulated copper business. The latter would be what is driving the stock increase.

Glenn Post has money and a company. Selling Quantum Fiber to him would be a way to have some cash and it would result in Lumen being able to claim "we are focused on the enterprise".

Quote from Wikipedia about Glenn Post: "In December,2023, the launch of Glen's newest company PhireLink was announced. PhireLink, a strategic joint venture aimed at enhancing high-speed internet accessibility throughout rural and under served regions of the United States. Glen Post, Chairman and CEO of PhireLink, stated: "The launch of PhireLink marks a new chapter in our quest to deliver superior, dependable communication services to rural America's underserved communities. This initiative is not only the foundation of our growth but also embodies our conviction that access to the internet is an essential need for every American.""

The Microsoft deal...and others that will happen. We have the pipes....thats the golden goose they want. And the market is just figuring that out.

From here on out I think Lumen is going to slim down and get rid of everything that MSFT doesnt want...and then be bought out or merged.

Shorts are not d-mb people. Best to sell somewhere between here and $2. And then pick up some shorting. If that is you want to fatten up your account.
