Thread regarding 3M layoffs

Who else feels completely burnt out?

I have no idea how much longer I can keep doing what I've been doing. I desperately need help but nobody seems interested in providing any. Our team lost five people in the last 12 months. It's not humane to expect us to pick up their work without any help. I'm this close to my breaking point.

Those LTI eligible should work harder to meet CEO targets. They are solely accountable. Those at lower level just do what you can within your scope. After all, once the targets are met, only those with LTI would enjoy the fruits of labour through share price gains.

Ever since I got the special lti from bb, I’m super motivated. With the removal of 14 and 15 and pushing 60 something’s off the ledge we are headed in the right direction. When the deer population increases…

You've inspired me. I'm f-ing sick of trying to move up the ladder only to be ignored.

If my boss can't get his head out of his a-- and notice that I've been stuck at my current job for far to long I'm going to start letting things slip.

They only fire people in waves and even then it's not based on performance, so why should I be doing anything more than the bare minimum?

one of the earlier comments is spot on for ESC redundancies, especially the regional reporters. they get to travel around, collate report, setup monthly calls. No accountability but yet they are of high job grades. Hopefully BB is able to spot this slack.

I'm not burnt out, but I am feeling unmotivated and disengaged.

I used to be a top performer, really doing my best to do a great job, with the hope that I'd be noticed and rewarded.

But it's become very obvious that there's no opportunity for advancement, so I've stopped going above and beyond; now I barely do the minimum to keep my job. I don't shirk my work, but I definitely don't volunteer for any stretch assignments or growth opportunities, I log off right at 5, and I only solve problems if it's going to make my life easier.

3M only pays me the exact amount we agreed on and not a cent less, so I only do the job we agreed to and not an iota more.

Read the comments about complexity of products comments and touch points of plants by BB. If BB had any understanding of what is wrong with 3M, read the comments in this thread about 6 managers wanting updates on a project weekly. This has been and is still 3M's biggest weakness redundancy and layers of management. Even with the restructuring Gibbons grew the redundancy in high salary's and reporters in ESC and logistics. Then he hired consultants to tell him what us wrong with the company. You will never convince them there is too much overlap in management.

I am working on a project that is considered high priority at the division level.

Fun but true fact :

Only two technical folks are working on this program, part time, while we report to six managers of at various levels who demand regular updates.

One manager changed the frequency of meeting to once a week to improve productivity.

I'm doing 3x as much as I should be doing and I still get reprimanded. Many others doing same without compensation. 3m can ead.

Please know that 3M will eliminate your job whenever they want and no one in your chain of command will blink an eye over it. Instead they'll shrug their collective shoulders and tell you they had no choice, they were told they must get rid of people, nothing personal.

You might think JE decisions are based on job performance but really they are not. The company always targets a good chunk of the longer-tenured employees as they cost the company the most in wages and benefits, but the balance are selected to create false optics regarding the totality of age, race, and gender of those let go.

Then in 6-12 months your work group will likely hire 1 or more new employees fresh out of university. And life moves on.

Instead of thanking me for working longer hours and taking over the work of two of my colleagues my OCD manager criticized me for being distracted and not responding to the hundreds of email I get right away. She asks for Power Points she never looks at and schedules unnecessary meetings. I think I will take the advice below and quiet quit for a bit and see what happens.

Work from home if you can. No reason going into the office with OCD bosses like 3M has cultivated. Like someone already said, be nice to your team. Do what YOU think you can do and don't fall for the "I have to pick up more work" brainwashing 3M has been pushing since Mcnerney days. They will only add more work when someone else leaves.

It's so sad what happened here since 2000 when GE flunky Mack the Kn--e showed up. This company was always a great place to work and meet friends and a future significant other.

Bill Brown is not here to relieve pain but rather accelerate the spins until 3M is a bunch of 0.6M sized companies.

Do the bare minimum while finding another job. If your management doesn't care to fully staff their own team, they will not care about you.
Just quit, you don't need a reason.
