Thread regarding Charles Schwab Corp. layoffs

I'm hoping for more cuts

Call me an a--hole, but I am. I’m really fed up with this place. Over the past few years, everything has changed so much that I just don’t care about anything here anymore. The passion and excitement I used to feel are completely gone. Getting laid off with a decent severance package would be perfect at this point.

"That means Schwab consider you as winner ?
So you are taking action before Schwab takes action :) circle of jerk? "

You do not get it, do you!

I made sure I am in a position that it does not matter if Schwab considers me a winner or not.

I worked on my reputation and skills that are valued outside Schwab. Instead of watching TV at night, I studied and got some valuable certifications. So far, two companies have reached out to me and offered me to come over when I want to.

I declined, because I like Schwab. But I feel the security of a plan B, should something happen.

It is my own responsibility to look after myself. It is not the responsibility of my employer!

You're in need of a reality check friend. You'll be eating your words come the day your severance package is near gone and you see how little the competition wants to pay someone who is desperate. It wasn't more than two weeks ago that I saw a guy I worked with years ago panhandling at a traffic stop. He took a job in another department that was hit hard back in October. He looked rough.

Interesting how this thread reads as whiners and entitlement. I see something different

  1. massive layoffs and org shifts along with RTO driving disengagement.
  2. org dynamics, firm risk appetite, general tooling and empowerment leading to high performing employees delivering 25% of what they could elsewhere

Overall I see many of the disgruntled as just beaten down spending their days on social dynamics and begging to just do their job vs doing it. Lastly, with the investment cuts and reorgs many feel their work is deprioritized or not valuable.

Those are many of the issues people are looking to leave to be happier and more engaged.. not just complainers

No big deal! I have standing offers from two other companies. I would start working for one of them within days.

People like you are the reason for the layoffs. The industry changes. You stay stagnant with the same skill set. You need to continue to grow instead of dwelling on the past.

How do you know the “new” severance package?

Be careful what you wih for!

There will be nothing like the severance packages you saw last October. (I happen to know.)

30 days + 2 days for every year worked. Benefits stops the day of lay off. Some outplacement support on an individual basis.

Lot's of young and inexperienced people posting here I see. Must have been a surprise to them how large companies work - and have always worked. At least in a market economy. The stockholders call the shots!

Sounds like they are disappointed that they are not hand held all the time, get gold stars for just showing up, and that the avocado toast is not free in the cafeteria. Spoiled brats, now realizing the show is over.

Most of these whiners were weeded out last year. There are a few left, but I hope they get them in the next wave, They just make everyone miserable around them.

Schwab is not perfect. But it is much better than most other companies. Much better!

Working at Schwab is like the book Animal Farm. The frontline workers are Boxer. The “leadership” are the Pigs. Leadership blames the frontline for their failures. “Some animals are more equal than others”

Also, I see leadership blaming everyone and everything but themselves but other than that the second group of people describes "leaders" at Schwab pretty well.

So the second group of people is the leadership at Schwab? I haven't seen them complaining so I wouldn't have guessed.

I have followed the discussion on this board for a while. It looks like there are two groups of disgruntled people: (1) People that were laid off and cannot get an equivalent job (2) People still employed, who think they are "entitled", are "perfect", and any issues are to be blamed on "leadership".

I have experienced those people at work, they seem to have one thing in common (not age): They never had to work and struggle for anything. Their parents paid their education, sometimes even their house. They never experienced any hardship, and they were always told "good job". Spoiled brats!

When the going get tough, they crumble. There was nothing to them but a facade! We who learned to work, and prepare for the worst just surf through it!

Being born with a silver spoon in your mouth just takes yo so far these days!

I am genuinely interested in understanding why you are concerned about the complaints regarding Schwab on this platform. While it’s possible that some of these grievances stem from a lack of skills or experience among employees, I am curious about your motivation for engaging in these discussions.

As a leader at Schwab, you might perceive the participants on this site as predominantly younger individuals who might come across as entitled. However, it is important to consider that the underlying issue may not solely lie with them but also with the traditional leadership approach prevalent in your generation. This style no longer resonates with the younger workforce, who are more inclined to leave a job if they feel undervalued or mistreated.

Additionally, the enforced return to the office has alienated many valuable Schwab employees across all generations. It has been proven that remote work can be productive for businesses and provides a better work/life balance. This shift is a significant factor in why many employees express a desire to leave Schwab.

So like most people at Schwab and I will patiently get in line and wait my turn.

If being laid off from Schwab would be a life-changing event for you, YOU are the problem, not Schwab. Stop whining and work on your skills instead!

The people complaining here are most probably people that made themselves vulnerable by not keeping their skills fresh! Just being lazy, and fat and happy!

It is not Schwab's fault, it is yours! Stop projecting your shortcomings on other people! It is not only immature, it also do not help you!

Own your own future!

Schwab was nice and sound before zero-trade fee war started and TDA acquisition. Vanity in high made SCHW lost mind. Aggregated from COVID, WFH, Interest rates fluctuation, SVB crash, and AI magic....etc. There were already some trimmings in STS and Digital Services under radar in April, July before last Oct/Nov, 2023 around ~2200 layoff and that one was designed to please W Street and pacify shareholders. When time was good, we got small perks such as wooden lunch boxes we never used, blankets and flowers and so forth. But when time is not so good, we got boots. Check your HR or Remedy People counts, you will see how many being let go for real. And this time it wont look good.

Get in line. There is a line wrapping around most Schwab buildings of those of would love to be laid off. This is the reason Schwab will never offer voluntary leave. They know the numbers would be massive and very telling about the state of the company.
To the trolls, most people cannot simply resign due to the state of the economy. We know you don’t understand this as your pay is likely pretty significant as Schwab does take care of VPs and above. It is everyone else below that level that is treated very poorly by Schwab and is easily replaceable according to other VPs. I have heard this myself. So you will just have to live not knowing who is really disgruntled and faking a smile in those leadership meetings. As we continue to post on this site how terrible things really are.

I have some bad news for you. People pick up quickly on workers with a bad attitude, like you!

You may be in the cross hairs for the next lay off because of that. But, guess what, the severance package will be awful, and you will find it very hard to get employed again.

If you have a problem with embracing change, you are basically scr-wed. The pace of change at Schwab is nothing what you will find at most other companies.

Sorry, but I had to break it to you!

Best to lay off those at the top. Set them up to fail like they did with their employees and give them a taste of their own medicine. But get rid of them however we can. Then organization will improve. But we know that will not happen. Let the business just fizzle out.

And the package may be changing.
