IBM is certainly overmanned (yes mostly band 10’s and up). The analysts on Wall Street are expecting IBM to get down to 35-40k in the USA, 30-35k in Western Europe, and to 110-115k in India. How IBM accomplishes that does not matter to the analysts as they use a revenue per employee number, and right now at 64 billion, IBM is running at a 210-220k worldwide head count pace.

Such a lame posting considering there are more than 20000 plus managers in IBM doing little or nothing but getting paid big bucks. Definitely they are not strategic if you use AI. Someone needs to wake up and do the right thing - termination.

ibm has slashed a ton of managers... particularly if they are over 50... you need to correct your assumptions... once you hit band d you are more protected, but even there the over 50 can be a target on your back.

and best of all, these IBM managers, VPs and senior VPs get stock options and travel to offsite meetings where they do little or nothing but stay at expensive hotels on the company AMEX, gossip and achieve nothing in terms of tangible business results. You can see F&O, Software, Sales and Consulting leadership doing this all the time. If that is the strategy for the company, it is one of total failure. Come to think of it, the IBM Strategy team under AK and JK is a total waste of time and money. After all, if you only maintain a mainframe business which is in decline (it is not growing by any stretch of the imagination), what is the point of having a Strategy team ? To buy peanuts to feed monkeys at the zoo on next IBM outing ?

'Once you make manager within IBM you are a protected class for the most part."

Oh and what a class that is.
They don't have to wrack their brains to solve some complex math or computer science problem and they get a large paycheck and bonus.
The US society is laughable or sad presently.
The only ones who appear more privileged are tenured twits.

yes that is the point - managers, partners and executives in IBM are a protected class in the US and India and it is not based on pay for performance for any of these crooks. There are well over 20000 heads that can be cut in this class, and they will not be missed by anyone who does actual work. They are not client facing, they do not fix anything, they do not bring in the sales but they are ready to collect their undeserved bonuses for running to meetings and achieving the sum total of nothing. At best, they spew out some lame but pretty Powerpoint presentations showing IBM's pathetic AI offerings (they are pathetic compared to those of the real competition). These so called leaders need to be let go in 2024 and their compensation go towards the profit that shareholders expect. Right ?

Have you ever seen IBM eliminate managers? Only once under Gerstner, and never again. Once you make manager within IBM you are a protected class for the most part. IBM will eliminate them, but not with outsourcing. It will be some other offering that gets folks out the door. Also note my previous statement There are not that many heads left to go get. IBM has outsourced most of the available NA and North European head count and those remaining standing are considered strategic and will not be impacted. The only way left to get the dead wood is a “retirement” incentive. NOTE that would get most the the remaining hangers on

Sorry, you are quite wrong about you wrote about the outsourcing of headcount to India. There are a huge number of US managers and executives particularly in Consulting, Software and elsewhere in IBM who are still sitting around earning big paychecks for doing nothing more than attending meetings. When these time wasters are pushed out and their jobs are eliminated and are not transferred to India on some pretext or another, you can say that your statement is correct. Until that happens and numbers are made available by JK, it's the same business as usual at Indian Bowel Movement.

AI is definitely going to replace a significant amount of jobs around the world. IBM on their quarterly call this past week confirmed that AND doubled down on it! You are definitely incorrect about IBM increasing the headcount in India. The offshoring model has run its course, as there are very few heads left that could be offshored to achieve efficiency. Instead, the headcount in India will be reduced via AI over the next 18-24 months as most of the repetitive jobs will be eliminated and replaced by automation. Remember it’s all about efficiency and AI is the tool set that accomplishes that. Yes these were the jobs that were offshored from the USA and Europe over the past 5 years. Expect Indias head count to take a major reduction and could go as low as 100k. If the 100k number is correct, then the USA headcount will settle into the 35k range and Northern Europe will hit the 30k range. Total world wide head count is heading in the 225k range

Only 10,000 in the AI layoff ? That is so low and so lame. You need to triple that number so AK and his cronies can get bigger take-home bonuses.

And don't forget the US layoffs too -you need some really spectacular numbers to make things work for AI, particularly in Consulting. Wall Street is relying on you to fudge the numbers for Q3 2024, JK.

Finally, don't forget to hire 50,000 more in India since that is AK's birthplace and he pays allegiance to his motherland for another medal on his chest.
