This is exactly how the company wants it to go…you move into role you’re unsuited for under guise of “opportunity”. Coworkers stab you in the back, old group doesn’t support you (so much for career ownership…) and bingo! Your ranking falls and you’re miserable. You’ve been set up to fail, because they need tributes for the next cycles. Older employee? They want you disgruntled because PIPing you is no great loss for the company, and it’s dead easy to make up sh_t about your poor performance so you’ll leave on your own. If you’re young, take this as a warning signal and gtfo.

This is the experience a lot of us have, @vma+1tEBqPIu. What’s funny is that some people are still talking “loyalty”, “career” and “hard work pays off” in relation to this exceptionally toxic company.

@cob+1tFAHgx agree and disagree… a lot of people are aging in place and skills are atrophying, but a big part of the reason is they’re not recognized, tapped or challenged. They get put on mind-numbing assignments that are already in cruise-control and they know that even if they do “step outs” and attempt to be “innovative” or “influence without authority” or show “courage of conviction” in improving a system/ environment - it’ll be:

  1. Not recognized and accepted
  2. They’ll be backstabbed by someone who doesn’t like the proposed change and
  3. Ultimately harmed in the ranking for creating a burden

Fact is: the wheel has been created at EM, and they like it that way. There’s no sense exerting precious energy trying to improve it. Unless you have a great boss or are tapped as a HiPo early in your career, there’s a game to play and for the vast majority of employees, that involves keep your head down and keep QUIET.

No waves. No new things. Just steer what you’ve been given - which, a lot of times, a monkey could do. Working @ EM can be soul-crushing, but EM knows there’a a price tag people are willing to accept for having their souls crushed, which is why the salaries are high.

It’s messed up. My supervisor and manager are in the same rank pool. How is that not conflict of interest? Also one of the supervisors is dating somebody openly in the group.

I am in this situation now. recently moved and left to die. They were real eager to move me to set me up for failure. Jokes on them as i am NRE and waiting to retire. This is so common now and will continue. I feel lucky that I will make it. to all the younger ones that have 10 to 20 years to go good luck you will need it.

You set yourselves up for failure by aging in place, letting your skills atrophy, overestimating the value of your knowledge base, and rejecting changes to the general working culture.

You’re also paid handsomely for doing what amounts to very little work that doesn’t require much skill. If I were your boss I’d be looking for ways to get rid of you too.
