Thread regarding Dish Network layoffs

Layoffs info

MASSIVE layoff and restructuring in September. More bad news toward the end of the year with many more being let go, and whole divisions being leveled. If you do not have an updated resume, get to it. From what this leader said, severance packages will not be ideal for 90% of those impacted. 2 weeks of pay only. DISH is not a good place to be, with leaders playing the political kiss-a-s game and burying their team.

Reposting this from @itpn+1tl6JNvy in hopes somebody can confirm or deny if it's true.

Dish doesn’t pay severance…and if you get anything (maybe a couple weeks) it just delays the unemployment. It does not prevent it. Just don’t sign the letter saying you voluntarily separated.

Wouldn't it save a company more money to just give a notice rather than pay for 2 or 3 months severance?

does taking severance prevent doing unemployment

How does rolling layoffs work? Like by just laying off repeatedly under the limit to report a notice? So Q4 is in about a month and a half. I don't see how doing a layoff this or next month would help save that much money since a month and a half or less is not a long time to save up money. Like it would make more sense for example, if layoffs were done earlier, months ago, to save up more money.

You are correct, Colorado requires 2 months notice per WARN act if more than 500 employees affected in a 90 day period. There could be significant rolling layoffs and stay under that threshold though

In practice, most companies basically treat the 2 month warning as severance - so you might still get escorted out, not get a chance to say goodbye or wrap up projects, etc with "no notice". You just keep getting paid for 2 months.

I thought a notice was required if it affects many employees. Sears did a BK because of a 100 million dollar debt payment because it could not pay it off.

Be ready. You do not have the luxury of a notice of a layoff. Not here in Colorado. The impact list may be thicker than the past layoffs. Why on earth would you wait. Resume/CV update, network. Get out there and get your new path before you're DISHED a notice.

So what happens in a scenario, if they do not get cash to fund Q4 operations in time before Q4 starts? They have not announced layoffs yet as far from what I have seen. Q4 starts in October and that is less than 2 months away. Would employees not come in to work or would then a BK have to be required?

YouTuber said they would have a hard time trying to find a buyer for spectrum. Not sure how true that is.

Can they, or would it require DOJ changing the terms of the sprint/tmo merger?

Anyone think it's likely DISH will use spectrum to pay for Q4 operations and the debt maturity in November?

A net loss of 200+ million dollars for Q2, ouch. Last few quarters have been around 100+ million net loss.

To that one that was laid off. Do you think more business lines would get sent to offshore? Like Customer Service? TV?

Most big companies announce layoffs during earnings calls. Dish usually seems to do layoffs randomly and not during calls like most big companies. Not sure why. Like dish one time did a layoff a week after earnings calls.

5G Integration War Room was impacted, not sure about other departments, and no I don't mean customer service.

Only a few are left in the U.S., a team was built a few months ago offshore and they'll be taking it from now on.

Earnings call today. Looks like they lost less subscribers than last year and quarter in the press release. Thoughts? Is the report still bad?

Intel and DELL, big tech companies, amongst other companies announced restructuring plans with layoffs during their earnings calls done recently. Restructuring seems to be a common move this quarter. Do you think it is likely dish announces some kind of a restructuring plan too or not yet?

What happens if they do not have cash to pay for Q4 operations and the debt in Nov? Do they then for sure need to do a BK or are there other things possible?

I just looked at the Dish Wireless career website.. there are 97 positions open. Including multiple directorships, management and senior engineering roles. Dish has an absolute horrible reputation in this industry with its schizophrenic hiring and firing practices. Anyone worth hiring in the wireless industry looking for work most often change fields before applying at Dish. Good luck all!

when is the next earnings call? that should answer questions. possibly more boost activations and less churn rate. not sure if dish will announce if they have raised finances for their November due period or if anything?

Not surprising at all. They're coming up on that due date for the billions that they can't afford to pay. The end of Dish is peaking over the horizon. I can't believe that there will still be people caught off guard when they're laid off.

There have been commenters mention massive layoffs in threads for July and that did not happen. Time will tell.

The leader in question does not buy into the political BS that spews like rancid sewage through the halls of Charlie's company. They are truth speakers, and have never told me anything that did not come to fruition. It will be all of the above with the massive size of the impacted employees. Think of the phrase "right sizing" the titanic, and that should tell you that some will be given life boats, while the majority will be told they are not going to be saved.
