It's not all AI. SAP is the other one that will destroy internal positions.

It is an IBM sponsored puff piece.

IBM has paid Timothy Prickett Morgan for over a decade to write fluff for IBM.

AI or no AI, headcount is going to be cut. This was always going to happen, and we in the IT industry really need to look in the mirror and own up to the fact that we helped to make it all possible. For that is the point of IT...create automated means to reduce pointless labor and make things run more efficiently. Just as milkmen, telephone operators and train drivers no longer exist in large quantities, a huge number of office jobs are just going to disappear because they are no longer required.

WatsonX and OpenAI didn't do this...we all did, as human beings. And to my mind, that's fantastic...hate on me all that you like, but I for one do NOT want a future where India Business Machines and companies like it employ millions of keyboard grunts slaving away to keep the man happy, like in the past. Let humanity find something else to do.

If only the C-suite were to be replaced by WatsonX…

Heaven help any company that adopts WatsonX because some IBM salesperson convinces them that it's performing better than expected. Imagine HR departments across the world replacing people for the hot garbage that is AskHR, then imagine the McDonald's order taking system that they just fired IBM for running your health care and banking. Would you get on a plane, train, or automobile running some version of WatsonX? Would you even trust WatsonX to tell you the time correctly? How long before the body counts and the lawsuits?

Take AK’s statement from above and accelerate it. Remember the CFO committed in 1st q’s earnings call to an additional 1 billion in savings for 2024. (thats approx 10k of headcount in first world countries More in 2nd and 3rd world countries) AI has proven far far more effective than anyone anticipated and it’s reducing head count via automation far faster. NOTE this is happening across all industries and not just IBM. Meta went down 25% on their headcount and they have not lost a beat. Expect IBM to follow that lead. We’ll get an inkling into IBM’s progress on AI adoption this Wed. Remember AK above was just talking about back office tasks, but IBM expanded that quite aggressively in 2nd q to include SW automation, and Consulting perform non-customer facing tasks.
