How are the temps this summer? Hearing that you all are in the midst of an abnormal heat wave.

great post. i also had a sliding glass door, western exposure. Always hot, fall and winters - fantastic.
looks like you cracked a nut with the 'papering with foil' technique. Makes me think that some of that insulation board used in housing construction covered with a foil, adhered in the manufacturing process would be ideal. 1/2 inch of styrofoam with foil sheets adhered to the outer surfaces.
I never had much problem with A/C at home until I changed to bachelor status. Main Camp house was much colder than Hills but my last house on Lilac was an oven. Impossible to get below 80. It wasn’t on a slab so hot air even coming up the baseboards but the unshaded western exposure was the real problem. I bought rolls of aluminum foil from the Commissary and taped it over all East and West facing windows and I was living in an ice box. No more oven. Thermal drapes can’t work because they still absorb the sunlight and get hot. You have to reflect the sunlight before it gets in. Housing never complained.
Yeah, I have kind of forgotten how miserable that can be. Dealing with dry heat these past few years. True, August and September on the Gulf is a whole different level of pain.
Humidity yet to arrive, you ain’t seen nothing yet!
Good. I lived on Hofuf street, and I could never get my inside temp below 86, peak, on the hottest of days. I took measures too; thermal curtains, rise verses set considerations (got the set right in through the sliding glass door), closed vents in little used rooms, everything short of purchasing a portable unit. Weekends and evenings were brutal at times. I would be so glad when the sun finally set. No wonder the culture is mostly nocturnal. No matter how many times I had the guys out, it never improved much for long. If I had it to do over again, I would purchase that portable unit sooner than later. Unless of course you are now paying for electric. Still, I would consider it because an Aramco e bill would be nothing like a stateside e bill...just sayin'.
Still bearable
