Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

You may catch falling glass but come sit in the cafe..

Just stay under the scaffolding, and don’t look up, and wonder at our iconic buildings.

@5vtt, That's a good point, the dedicated employees who can do their job from anywhere have to suffer because of the ones who abuse the system. It's a shame but there's no other way to police the ne'er-do-wells.

I think going back to the office is fine. But the pedestrian covers they have constructed are very poor. Only covering half of the sidewalk and it doesn’t even look like the plywood is secured down. Compare it with the professional job around the Marriot or other downtown buildings.

Just saying it’s 3 days a week and you can’t find it to come in to the office. So then management has to mandate us to come in-instead of singling out the ones that aren’t signing in and actively participating in meetings or work turnaround???

MW doesn't read this. He's too busy counting money you earned that he's putting in his pocket. Get back to work.

Saftey is actually something management uses to raise dividends. If they can cut the bonus when accidents happen that's good to them and allows executive pay to go up further.

Its not like people are saying dont go back. We get it, its a job.

But dude, "watch out for falling shards of glass that may ki-l you." and "safety is our top priority" just dont match.

Management needs to be honest. "Too many people are slacking off from home because we have terrible managers. We need to force you into the office to because we can then watch over you. Safety is secondary to financial performance as we need our LTIP bonus for our new yachts"

Repairs will not be complete until 2025 - panels are custom and need to be manufactured (thank Ken Lay for that). The crews working on the building have done an amazing, dangerous, and monumental job to enable a safe return. Their effort has been to make the building safe for staff, commuters and pedestrians. If safety wasn’t a priority, we’d have returned already.

The number 1 priority is the ego of our management. They want us in the office since they said so! They are big men and know what's best period! Our safety is way down the priority list just like American jobs is low on the list.

On the call yesterday, we were told that there is still a hazard for falling items. Not my assessment, that’s what we were told. If safety truly is a top priority, Chevron wouldn’t allow anyone back in that building until the repairs are complete.

@1nfk so you don't feel unsafe and you would actually go to 1400 smith if it was a Restaurant. However, because Chevron says that safety is a priority and somehow you made an assessment that going is not safe (safe enough for restaurant but not for work), now you feel unsafe or entitled to complain and not go.

@1xjg Restaurants, concert venues, and sporting events don’t claim that safety is their top priority. Chevron shouldn’t make this claim any longer, it’s not true.

If it wasn't work, but instead a restaurant, concert, sporting event or any other place you like to go to, you would go under current conditions. Just finding an excuse to still collect a paycheck without the responsibilities associated to it; one of them going to the office 3 days a week. Those are the rules, and they are very clear. Nobody is forcing you to work for Chevron and I don't see people quitting.

@1sdr and you do.... When is the corporation going to discover the great genius you are and promote you so that you can lead the company?

I’m fine with going back to the office before repairs are complete but don’t claim that safety is top priority. It cannot still be true.

“Our windows have performed well”.
No they haven’t, they have failed in the two possible instances they could have (at much lower than the design wind speed).
Anyone who understand wind loading, the wind speed of that storm and the design wind speed for these buildings will understand that these windows shouldn’t have been remotely close to failing.

In the next wind event they will fail again, whilst the vast majority of buildings experience no damage because they’re designed to code.

No one on that call today understand building design/structural engineering and it really showed.

Yea, safety is our top priority so watch out for falling glass while we force you back in an office before repairs are complete.
