Thread regarding State Farm Insurance layoffs

State Farm SIU defanged

As a manager in SIU, it is extremely important for our people to be able to go to the field and investigate claims. As of the end of the second quarter, all company cars were eliminated and those employees who were classified as proximity will now be classified as remote.

The company wants to use vendors like We Go Look and expensive private investigators who bill to death for their effort not the results. They say it is about expenses but the expenses will certainly go up and up.

In the end, indemnity payments will sky rocket and they will then wonder why. We did this in the past and it didn't work. Repeating the same action and expecting a different outcome is just plain d-mb.

I am glad I am toward the end of my career. This company is being run by people looking to say they reinvented the company for their MIP. Totally insane. I agree with cutting expenses but this draconian step is plain reckless. We will be the target for all of the fraud in the industry. An industry leader for the wrong reasons.

lol! Yeah that’s SIU’s issue. Cars. Literally had a policy holder admit on a recorded statement that she forged a signature on a $5k a month lease and SIU kicked it back saying they wouldn’t do anything about it. SIU is a joke. No wonder they’re being defunded!

Way is anyone surprised. Our management is the best in the land. So what if we are losing money and raising rates. We are growing and growing. The claims have a long tail and our leaders will make a lot of money before the reality sets in. PP and MH are setting trends to put it mildly.

It’s interesting reading people trash all the older, seasoned vets—while they also complain that SF isn’t the company it used to be….with all those people.

What's wrong with that? Learn from those who came before and made SF #1...

The older Prox SIU reps, can run circles around most of these new SIU inoffice SIU reps and TM’s. We used to work TM desks all over the region when asked. Metrics is ki-ling all claim handling. Legit SIU claims should be face to face handling. W/ the numbers SIU is given, the work expected, it can’t be done properly. Just because SIU doesn’t take the claim doesn’t mean you can’t question what you believe is fraud. SIU is not the “He is mean, send to SIU” unit. Grow a pair and learn to say no. Like we used to. OP, thanks for speaking up on this. Sadly experience and dedication to your work is not valued anymore.

Who cares, every fraudulent bill ive ever identified only resulted in like a 2hr interview and "oh just dont pay that bill and continue handling" now with a super mad clmt/ni since SIU talked to them for 2hrs.

Do you guys in SIU do anything more than interview then toss back to the claim handler ever? Ive never once seen a result from SIU and ive sent tons of sketchy stuff, and again, verifiable fake bills.

Also, of course SF would rather pay more for a non employee to get half results. How many temp claim handlers does the company employ? More than in house at this point? Those guys get paid 2x the in house people and they barely impact positively.

This company seems to be willing to pay whatever it takes to guy its own laborforce.

I don’t honestly think SIU has much of a purpose these days. I have sent a number of claims to SIU for fraud only to have them either sent back or ignored.

It looks like SF is weeding out SIU or at least outsourcing it. I’m guessing you won’t have a job soon.

Some of the replies were rather stupid. Typical trolls.

What I learned in SIU 10+ years ago still dismays me today. Also that SIU had the worst good ole boys elite mentality than regular claims ever thought of becoming.

This has been going on since at least when I joined SF claims which was 8 years ago. Metric’s over quality. Management’s bonuses are based on metrics only (vast majority at best).

Been a long time since I worked in SIU. Decades. But the problem we always faced was this: 1. People want insurance fraud stopped...on everybody else's claim. We should never question anything on their own claim. 2. We could have somebody dead to rights-video of the permanently disabled guy sliding into home plate at last night's softball game--and juries still don't rule in our favor very often. Saying "No" to a fraudulent claim often results in our paying many times more for the futile legal defense of that decision.
