Specifically in what I’m seeing it’s Indian leaders blocking moves to other teams. Some of these moves are very clearly for the benefit of the business and the people would do better on the new team. Where another leader is coming to them to advocate for the move. They would rather lose or grind the people into the ground instead? Crazy. They literally trap people where they are. Why? Ego? Power/Control over the people? Is this some unwritten VP/SVP rules?

Pure self centered short term motivations driven by a scarcity mentality. It is a 3rd world psychology in dense populations. It is anathema to the United States.
Indians are wired like that... it's their culture and you can't change that. Live with it or leave Cisco.
People who block moves for career progression are not leaders. They are managers or bosses. Leaders help people grow and lead.
We have too many managers / bosses (1st line, 2nd line, low level Directors) who think they are actual leaders. I am sure none would be a mentor of choice of anyone reporting to them.
Supposed to have cracked down on that.
Happens at every company. Not a cisco specific issue.
Blocking move is fine, BUT get in writing no LR next one year, and then see their reaction. Bunch of self centered id--ts who know nothing.
my older leader did to me. Tried for 6 months to find a new role and blocked it every single time I had an offer. Sad business practices all around but just remember, we are a company who promotes career growth….
