I agree with Truth.

A PIP is just justification in an employee file to get rid of them. Or is NOT to save or help them. It just covering the company’s butt so they can say they tried to help the employee before letting them go.

Don’t kid yourself a PIP is meant to be the beginning of getting rid of someone. It is to try and force them to quit or justify firing them. This BS that is is designed to help employees meet expectations and guide them to get back on track is simply a lie. It’s the first step to removing someone. They either get pressured to quit or they get fired. That’s the real purpose of a PIP. No one survives them.

A Performance Improvement Plan (PIP) is a formal document that helps employees who are underperforming at their job meet expectations and continue working. It's usually created in collaboration with the employee, their manager, and HR.

It is insane how something that is meant to guide a employee back but instead it is used as a justification to kick someone. What is more disheartening that you can be a hard worker and help out everywhere and anywhere you can you still wont end up on your managers good list. To be placed on a PIP speaks volume on the manager rather than the person who has been placed on a PIP. But hey Karma is real! it will come back and bite you...

What does PIP mean and how do I stay away from it because it sounds like a syndrome.

in practical terms, you are not supposed to survive a PIP. plain and simple.

it becomes a permanent stain in your company record. no other account/team will accept you if you have a PIP in your history, that is, if for some miraculous reason you actually survived it. The resentment it harbors on the employee that was put in the PIP never goes away and if your manager puts you on one, it just wants you gone. period.

a PIP its just a tool to justify you being let go. at gainwell, these are used as a last resort because they require a huge amount of work from the manager. that is a simple reason why PIPs are not used even more.

And with WFRs happening on a weekly basis, at this point, there is no need. you can achieve the same result just by waiting a little bit until there is a chance to throw your name in the WFR list.

Now, this is important to consider... if your manager puts you on a PIP, he/she is completely done with you, and quite possibly hates you at that point, at least dislike you enough to put himself through that amount of work just to get rid of you; and also, to try to prevent your potential return to the company in the future.

just saying, if you get put on a PIP, you might have done something to aggravate your manager. I'm not saying its fair, but for future reference, if not for another reason other than pure survival at your next company, there might be a lesson to be learned there. try not to do the same "mistake" in the future, whatever that was.

Ditto to all the above. PIP immediately engages Employee Relations and after that, it's beyond negotiation, really. Not that it's fair but that's the way its handled. I'm sure there are some accounts who love it because they don't have to face the employees they put on PIPs just for not being a YES person under their poor leadership.

If you are on a PIP, start looking for a new job. Either you will be fired soon or you will quit because you can’t do your job to the expectations the HR manager has set for you.

I know 2 people that were put on a PIP. Neither one survived it. One got canned and the other basically got forced into quitting.

In my previous experience I have never seen anyone survive a PIP. Usually once you are on it that is the beginning of the end.

If I was put on a PIP I would immediately begin looking for another job. The relationship or culture can usually never be repaired. You will always be viewed in a negative way after being placed on one.

Good luck.
