PIP with performance reviews

I heard ExxonMobil will stop associating PIP with annual performance reviews (ranking). Does anyone no if there is any truth to this?

The threat of 5+% layoff annually based on an extremely bias and rigged ranking system is mental anguish for over 50% of employees.

I have seen excellent employees PIPd and absolute id--ts placed at the top of ranking because of they were HiPo with sponsors.

One HiPo, BW, is such an arrogant id--t that he is dangerous. Every year that he does not get NSI confirms the system is rigged and ineffective.

PIP is a standard HR process, resulting from all types of performane review, either from ranking or not. OP maybe you're speculting whether or not forced ranking is going away, short answer is NO. Ranking is what makes this company great and at the same time toxic. Creme de la creme.

It seems the purpose of the PIP is to disguise a layoff by utilizing the performance review system.

Any PIP outside of that review cycle is straight up firing someone.

I have seen a person that was consistently the top performer in his rank group get PIP’d. He was targeted for being vocal about project issues that the project management was hiding. The PIP is typically more closely related to politics or personal vendetta than with performance. Also, an indication that PIP is unrelated to performance is the issuing of PIP % prior to any assessments. Darren must be psychic if he knows how many employees Need Significant Improvement prior to ANY assessments.

Taking the PIP away from the performance cycle systematically on a large scale would be a huge change, maybe an attempt to reduce headcount by much more than the 5% annually.

A PIP without a performance review means you’re being straight-up fired.

If you’re worried about losing your job just over-employ. I got fired from J1 a few years back, but I had a J2 where I was still banking over $100k. This is the way.

That’s hilarious. So you get piped but are the best employee in your craft. That makes a lot of sense. I mean it happens already but to disassociate the 2 makes no sense
