CIO needs to go

Incompetent leader who cripples innovation because he learned the %'s quoted in every pocket MBA book.

CTO unable to move any R&D initiative forward unless it has an ROI that is approved by the CIO.

4% R&D expense to revenue corrupted by M&A amortizations, refactoring development of PFAS removal from products (not R&D!), and hordes of staff that should NOT be classified as R&D. More like 1.5% R&D expense to revenue.

Remove this clown. Free R&D! CTO is fine, and smart enough to realize he can't rock the boat filled with MonnyPotty friends.

Hopefully the new CEO will figure out that Mark isn’t the guy for the job. A new leader that actually understands 3M, how to grow a business, and how to motivate employees would be a welcome change.

Mark is a perfect example of the issues at 3M. An executive who only cares about himself. No teamwork, no innovation, got rid of all the good folks when he came in, and only hired incompetent new people.

In this case does cio mean chief information officer as in the IT people? If so then the CTO would have no reason to pass anything through the CIO and this is not stopping innovation.

There are many many other reasons that innovation has slowed but needing the CIO to sign off on new r&d projects is not one of them. I’m also not saying that the CIO is anything but what is listed in the other comments.

Let’s not forget MonnyPotty is a horrible leader. I would love to know how many HR complaints were filed against him and dismissed. He, like many senior leaders, feels the Code of Conduct does not apply to him.

If BB had been hired to save 3M rather than break it up he would clean up his leadership starting with MonnyPotty and FlimFlam and their “mini-me” types on their teams.

3M stopped being an innovative company a long time ago.

Now, we just buy other companies for their IP portfolio, and then try to part it out and sell off collections of complimentary tech.

Anyone still expecting our R&D to make a comeback should retire, because that ship sailed a long time ago. We haven't invented anything worth mentioning in decades, and we're not about to start now.
