Thread regarding 3M layoffs

If you just got laid off by Mother Mining in MN, this was the best week

Weather is actually awesome in the TC area. Went to MOA twice so far. Even spent some of that severance pay drinking Happy Hour and playing games at D&B (half price day too).

Anyone else out enjoying the weather - it's SNOWED before in May here.

OP here. Actually getting a pension so enjoyed Rainforest Cafe with the family and a good book at barnes and noble. It is soooooooo liberating to not have to take BS instructions from the "leadership" and transmit the garbage to a team of great employees who deserve the old 3M.

Enjoyed a local pub today.

Go riddance to what James McNerney destroyed. Shame on you Jimmie

My director told our team that all our jobs would go to GSCs through attrition. Since then, that director left, we had cuts, and when the remaining started to leave, they were indeed replaced in GSC. Perhaps director decided to be honest once he was headed out the door himself, but everything he said has been playing out. He was 20+ year 3Mer who left abruptly. I think they will only wait for remaining attrition for so long before they cut. Run if you have something to run to. 3M doesn’t care about workers or its history or legacy, so all are vulnerable - it can’t be saved, but it is a paycheck until it isn’t. Have updated resumes, social networking and backup plans

Not a lot has changed. I do notice some teams adding headcount and they are in GSCs and even CWs through GSC HR resources. It is obvious the US cuts experienced and more expensive in favor of cheap. The experience loss shows on a regular basis and 3M continues to add (not reduce) complexity. Operating on a daily basis is tickets and trying to figure out contacts (and which contacts still know things or get things done)

Got laid off 5 months ago, sounds like everything is going peachy at 3M....NOT. Upper management had gone bonkers laying of its most experienced folks while flailing in the wind losing money by the day.

Congratulations! Rest of us get to watch our new leader state the obvious on his videos which we’ve trying for the last 10 years but he gets to try with half the people since layoffs. How do you get anything done if you layoff all the people who get sh-t done and keep the strategist map makers who create templates to fill out.
