What is the story behind the lack of salary grade promotions? Given the transparency in pay level based on titles, seems like no one in my office at the working level has gotten one this year.

Look like there were some July 1. Not many but a few
Yep, AI is the new revenue grab for budgets. Sad to see.
AI tops the new budget not bonuses. How much can be saved by AI? Some companies project AI could replace 40% of employees. Seems extreme.
Low cost culture is how Scott Higgins MPC machinist at Galveston Bay didn't get a chance to go home last year. He burned to death.
Not certain of the connection between "mothership" and promotion and/or raises but can say once MPC acquired TSO, TSO folks were in the bullseye from many angles. 26+ year industry career at the time MPC acquired TSO ... left MPC after 6 months of "not my monkeys not my circus" routine. Moved to smaller owner/operator refining/specialties company ... immediate 20% pay bump with (absent covid effects) year-over-year average bumps of 4% with yearly bonus in 30% - 35% percent range. Culture has to start at the top and the top has to "walk the walk and talk the talk" otherwise it'll continue as is ...
Jobs that require sitting behind a computer all day are AI bait. Likely a good time to consider some new training for physical work opportunities in future just in case. Lulls can sometimes mean that department could be under scanning to see if AI would be cheaper than just giving away money for unproductive promotions. Remote work identifies good AI opportunities first. Be planning ahead for this.
Low cost culture babbbbbbyyyyy ain’t nobody gonna get promos or raises if you ain’t at the mothership. Gonna get worse cause low cost culture gonna go into overdrive come august.
