Thread regarding 3M layoffs

More BS restrictions - seriously, leave this company ASAP!

Guess what. 3M is now going to restrict messaging apps on BYODs. Seems like LEGAL (always those weasels) is afraid you're going to tell sh-t you shouldn't. If you are Gen X or younger, ditch this cr-ppy company!! There's so much more out there.

Another genius idea for the CDIO - Mark M. This guy is a clown, hired to do nothing more than layoff Americans and move jobs to India.

Who on earth is making these id--tic decisions, is there something in the water at HQ? Our teams all around the world use these apps to keep in contact with our customers on a daily basis. Who do these geniuses in Corporate think is making the money that is keeping them all employed, apart from the businesses that they are trying to ki-l with an endless supply of braindead ideas and external consultants' mumbo jumbo. If someone really wanted to share 3M IP or other confidential information, they can just take a picture on their personal phone - all this stupid ban does is limit our ability to communicate with our customers and colleagues - way to go.

Whoever pass this rule never go through their brain. Not all employees have Teams access or using expensive Apple devices. By restricting these, it is as good as slowing down the entire communication processes! Brainless!

I thought the focus was supposed to be on growth. This is another waste of time especially after implementing a 4 day work week with their pay cut to managers.

Agreed.
Prior to site closure, local contractors were selected - they were given the businesses, equipments, formulae, specs and training on how to make and qualify the products.
Imagine if you are the sales and technical team who won those business before.

Any proprietary info and trade secrets that were worth anything probably already leaked ages ago. The past 20+ years were spent outsourcing our products to the lowest bidder and then teaching those companies how to make them.

Before morale at 3M plunged under the Inge and Roman Empire, the thought that any trade secret or proprietary information ever leak out would be preposterous. 3Mers were loyal and proud and the company had great protections in place.

The problem with all the spins about to happen is people will feel like property and not the "most important assets" that the old 3M made them feel like. Throw in gutting all of the centralized resources and tools that were used to prevent leakage (these are "costs" to Wall Street and therefore unnecessary) and it won't shock people to see stuff get out. This never had to happen. The old 3M was a great company that guarded its assets better than anyone. But Mcnerney wanted to beat WS quarterly estimates and ki-led the innovation giant.

Man, I know people here love to blame 3M for everything up to and including the weather, but this is a pretty standard policy at any large company.

The goal is to prevent "egress" of intellectual property and trade secrets. If you use a messaging app to share work docs on the same phone you use to pay online poker and share Facebook memes, when your phone gets hacked they also have access to company secrets.

Really doesn't take a genius to understand the issues at stake here.

That's a good excuse to stay non- contactable, since many of people don't own Apple devices iOS
