Thread regarding Nielsen layoffs

Europe is next

Heard through the grapevine that the European offices are getting ready to lay off people now. Meetings will start this week, good luck everyone.

Nepotism at Gracenote has been an issue long before Nielsen acquired it. Especially in QBY where everyone is practically brain dead and related to each other. I was let go in the layoffs last year and it was a blessing in disguise.

Oh please. No one is being an a--hole for calling out nepotism. And these people didn’t start “alliances” because of mistreatment, they were hired into roles they are unqualified for due to the relationships they had and that creates a difficult working environment for everyone around them because they do not do their jobs to any capacity. Go white knight for these parasites somewhere else.

If you think I'm a team lead or even making a decent wage, you're fu--ing high. I'm barely surviving, and given the job market where I am, this layoff will destroy my life for years. I just think everyone being an a--hole is hurting ALL OF US. I don't give a sh-t about the higher ups, and my manager and team lead really don't know sh-t about my work, which makes things impossible sometimes, but they're also following directives from on high and getting constantly shifted to different, larger teams, and then again once they start to catch up. I don't like these people, but it could be any of us because of the dog sh-t culture at Nielsen. All of them probably started backstabbing and creating their own little alliances for the same reasons you feel like this now, they just had the opportunity and resources to do it. You're just like them.

Nepotism (as others have said) seems to be normal in Europe and since there are so many people willing to keep a job whatever it takes, this leads to the worst environment ever in which a-s kissing and what not is king.

This is the Nielsen of today, we don't innovate or otherwise advance, we just kiss our managers (they call themselves leaders) as--s and tell them whatever they want to hear. We are building castles in the air.

From my experience, it’s true that nepotism at Gracenote has enabled some really cr-ppy employees to remain. I’m unfortunate enough to work with these types. Those arguing against this likely benefited from the nepotism themselves so they don’t see a problem with it. I guess I wouldn’t either if the ones in my department put in any effort at all, but they don’t, they’re extremely lazy, so it su-ks working with them.

"... people thinking they're the only good employee and everyone else is a piece of sh-t who deserves to be eliminated and never employed again."

Says every GN manager and TL who has consistently stabbed their colleagues in the back for years to gain favoritism, and is now being treated the same by those above them.

Funny how that eventually comes full circle. No empathy here.

The only consistent thing on this board is people thinking they're the only good employee and everyone else is a piece of sh-t who deserves to be eliminated and never employed again. You folks are weird.

I had no idea Gracenote is such a toxic nightmare. I don’t work on that side obviously but I like my European counterparts. At least some of them are good workers and helpful.

Hopefully all throughout Gracenote from the bottom feeding team leads all the way up through low, middle and upper levels of mis-management.

All are back stabbing minions who are co--y one day then now your best friends once news of their hammer is announced, and who will have a hard time finding work once their little cliques are broken apart and true useless selves exposed.

A whole lot of humble pie about to be served, and hope they stop reaching out to me on LinkedIn as I've been ignoring each and every one of them. No thanks as I prefer to surround myself with much better people.

I hope so! In Europe are some of the worst co-workers I have ever worked with. They are, however, good sheep so not sure about they going away in today's environment...

European labor councils (or whatever the term is, country depending) have been notified of impending layoffs. I know people on my team in Europe who are stressed and waiting for news, their councils were notified a month or two ago. As for when the layoffs will happen and who, that depends per country and role. I imagine the notifications start rolling out soon though, and go through the summer to comply with different country laws.

But yeah Europe as a whole is getting hit again but per usual, Nielsen is communicating this horribly and with maximum stress. Aholes.

Each country in Europe has its own peculiarities, such as different labor regulations, different roles within companies, etc. Talking about Europe as a whole is quite a simplification. In any case, Nielsen have already had layoffs there, people leaving voluntarily, and union discussions about cuts (it’s a must have in some countries…). It’s proceeding similarly to the rest of the company. It’s just more complicated because they are dealing with smaller teams in complex situations.
