Thread regarding Medtronic Inc. layoffs

Summer Hours

Just FYI - one of our competitors is on LinkedIn bragging about their Summer Hours while MDT takes ours away with no notice.

"As summer approaches, we're thrilled to announce the return of our Summer Friday's tradition! Starting today, our team will enjoy an early start to the weekend to soak up the sun, spend quality time with loved ones, and come back on Monday feeling rejuvenated. Cheers to a fantastic summer ahead."

Guess whose job board I'll be checking out every Friday afternoon....

"Summer Hours" is just a word. If you managed your work load correctly, sure take a few hours on Friday for yourself time. None will complain unless an emergency comes up and you can not be reached.
BTW this ex-benefit doesn't start until the end of this month :)

I make my own summer hours. At noon today, I stopped working and mowed the lawn. Then I played basketball with my kids. You can do this!

Summer hours were a Joke, none worked four 9 hour days to grab a 8-12pm Friday, good riddens IMHO this was even before WFH during Covid-19

Summer hours are NOT back at Medtronic. OP was pointing out that a smaller competitor is advertising that they do offer summer hours now (presumably hoping to lure talent).

Agreed, many spineless leaders.

Geoff probably wanted summer hours “sunsetted” so he could stay longer at work to hide from his family. If he’s as bad of a husband as he is a CEO I’m guessing his wife is looking for a new employer too.

Summer hours are back, wtf is happening?! These clowns can’t even agree on what will hurt us the most.

Sounds like summer hours are still happening? If so, why did they speak to them as “sunsetting” to begin with?! Leadership acts like they are doing us a favor by not enforcing a policy change. You aren’t heroes, you hide from speaking up to your bosses and then roll back polices without telling them. How about you say no to “sunsetting” from the start vs pulling us back and forth. I shouldn’t be happy for being “given” a benefit back that should have never come up in discussion. You aren’t leaders, you are spineless.

I left for a company that has a winter and summer shutdown as well as summer hours. It took me too many years to realize MDT benefits are severely lacking compared to our competitors.

Summer hours? Last that I heard summer hours turned into working from home, same thing! What a joke!
