Thread regarding 3M layoffs

For decades, 3M knew PFAS chemicals were dangerous but hid risks from public

As far back as 1950s, studies conducted by 3M studied the toxic doses of PFAS in mice and researchers at Stanford found fluorinated chemicals could build up in our blood. By the 1960s, animal studies conducted by 3M and DuPont revealed that PFAS chemicals could pose health risks. But the companies kept the studies secret from their employees and the public for decades. Here is a timeline of internal memos, studies and other company documents detailing the two companies’ history of deception. This site has all of 3M's dirty secrets for all to see. Many 3M documents and emails on this site that show 3M knew the issues and just kept going. Code of Conduct did nothing. Why so many layoffs the last 5 years? Simple. 3M hid its forever chemical secrets for 60+ years. So many more layoffs coming.

To this day, some of my municipalities purchasing bids require pfas materials for certain products. Time to bring responsibility where it belongs

I was in the lab when 3M brought their findings to the EPA. 3Mers were devastated including leaders. I find it mind boggling to think they knew anything and hid it. For crying out loud, they followed the laws that were in place.. hardly sketchy

The 1975 memo is shocking. 3M called by the University of Florida and asked if Scotchguard had surfactants (PFAS) as the chemical was showing up in people's plasma. The concern from the university was correct. However, the memo gives 3M leadership comfort that the truth was hidden, "We plead ignorance". The truth was hidden means 3M started its long litany of lies that continue to today.

I found the documents very helpful. They helped me understand what 3M knew and when they knew about the dangers of PFAS. Thanks for sharing.
