Thread regarding Union Pacific Corp. layoffs

Tell your furloughed friends

the big boy is starting its summer tour. Make sure they know about it so that way they can see the real reason why the UP had to let them go in the name of “right sizing”.

I’d bet there are subsidies, grants, tax breaks for ‘historic’ purposes and that is why the big boy is still around.

I got furloughed! Now I work for a company that's actually serious when it comes to safety of the employees and communities, and providing great customer service. The UP only claimes to be for those things with their propaganda machine.

You know more job cuts are coming when they roll out the worlds largest hot water heater and parade it around the system. Its a PR prop they take to all of communities they disrupt through layoffs and blocked crossings to show how much the UP cares. Between maintenance, operating costs and network delays, its actually amazing JV is keeping the program. Sadly, Big Boy is the most dependable and only well maintained locomotive at the UP since JV cut off mechanical professionals across the system. Sc--w the customers and the locomotives we need to move their product; instead, we have a steam train to show everyone.

How much do they spend a year operating that thing? Maintaining it? They cut it out, prob save a few hundred jobs.
