Under performing stores

So we're closing a few stores. Doesn't mean we're in bad shape.

Here's a question I have? If Hy-Vee is closing those 3 stores due to them losing money why would they spend money on that chain in Indiana if supposedly stores are draining the company? Just doesn't make a lot of sense. Also why those specifically 3 stores? Because I know damn well there are other stores out there that have lost money for years too. Just seems like Jeremy and Co have something against a certain group of people.

Oh I will wait and see. Let me know how the crow tastes. Any buffone can come on here and make predictions. My very good source tells me HyVee is in the process of buying Walmart

To the guy that's asking about sources on the store closing rumors how much is Jeremy and triple chin paying you to smooch their as--s?

They think gaap books and the new invoicing system is gonna solve problems. Haha. They never successfully launch new programs and the training is a mess. GK still isn't correct on so many things on the registers. And it's so inefficient. Stop trying so many different things at once. Sell groceries and give the consumer good prices. Stop all the nonsense. Do a one week ad and stop running the magazines. Stop decorating stores. What a waste.

Where did this mysterious number 16 stores closing come from?

Here's a question I have. If certain stores are losing money then how does corporate know which ones are losing money if people are supposedly cheating on the P&L report. I thought the big wigs in des moines were suppose to trust the stores I guess not. I think the reason Jeremy is closing these 3 stores in these areas is those people supposedly don't spend enough because God forbid people would spend money on groceries and not on things like stupid wahlburgers or stupid race car stuff that Jeremy seems to obsess about.

Everybody cheats on inventory. Directors make false Inventory reports all the time. Can you really fault a director to lie on the P&L. Their job and their pay check depends on these results. Bad P&L and you get fire or no paycheck. Doesn’t pay to be honest. The sad part is being a director anymore is a revolving door. Look around. Most new directors don’t last more than 3 years

Examples.....consistently cheating on monthly and quarterly inventory.

Hyvee has very questionable business practices

I completely agree with closing a store that consistently loses money. However, the issue is how you define what losing money is. It seems that corporate force ships and charges the stores for things that, well, let's just say is a bit questionable. That's why a lot of those charges are going away with us going towards GAAP principles. Suddenly a store that was losing money for years is instantly profitable? That sounds like we were getting scammed all along...

If this was your own grocery store funded by your own money and it lost money year after year, you would close it, cut your losses and move on. A business is not a charity, but it can do charitable things - Which every Hy-Vee store has done since the beginning. The founders of the company lent credit to customers to buy groceries when they couldn't afford them in the depression, while they themselves struggled. Hy-Vee is not this big monster y'all portray it to be. It sure has it's set of faults, no doubt. But it also has it's share of positives.

All that brain power in Des Moines can't figure out how to make a store profitable? Obviously not, but they sure know how to enjoy the latte's, and then the exercise equipment at the Grimes center!

If they were to close unprofitable stores they would be left with about 100 less than they have now

Well, HyVee stores do bring more than just their high prices. They bring us tax revenue and jobs, so when they go, especially a large employer like Hyvee, they take with them more than just the food stuffs and Nascar toys. There are many ways for a grocery store to turn profitable. Unfortunately, HyVee's current model of profitability uses a dated model.
When competitors beat you pn price 90% of the time, you have to provide a reason for people to shop that difference. It used to be "a helpful smile in every aisle." No longer.

All I’m saying is HyVee is doing the right thing by closing stores that haven’t ever been profitable. People are crying because now HyVee is leaving their small town and they will have to drive 30 miles to the grocery store. Communities can support these store and then they cry when they leave. Lol

"If these communities can’t support a store...". Hmm, have you ever wondered why aren't they supporting the stores? I mean, isn't it the responsibility of the community to do everything in their financial power to make sure the HyVee grocery store is profitable? /s

Last time I checked HyVee isn’t a soup kitchen. If these communities can’t support a store to be profitable then HyVee has every right to close that store. The fact is HyVee should have closed those stores years ago. Any store that wasn’t profitable during covid should be on the cutting block. Get rid of under performing stores fast.

I did hear from a source yesterday that there are more store closings to come over the next several months. That these 3 were just the first wave that there was going to be a total of 16 stores when all is said and done

They probably need to close a few more to be honest. I know several stores that have been losing money for years. Mine being one of them.

I agree, I think it’s devastating for the communities and neighborhoods these stores serve. I do feel for those people and I hope there is another solution for them at some point in the future. However, the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over expecting different results. These stores can’t have been profitable for the last 10+ years, at least. Business is business. Hy-Vee serves every single community it’s located in, in so many ways. Disaster relief, donations to local organizations, fundraising for schools and community, meals and funding for the less fornunate, and the list goes on. People always seem to forget all of this when it’s convienent for them. Also, it’s remarkable how many people have the audacity to complain about Hy-Vee so intensely, and then throw such a tantrum that a store they hate is closing. You have no legs to stand on my friends. Your hubris is almost amusing.

You must not work at any of those stores affected by that decision then. I DO and I'm telling you this is not a good decision. Yes these stores might not have been making money but people relied upon these stores. I have personally gotten to know some of these customers and let me tell you they are some of the best customers hy-vee has. But since Jeremy has his head so far up his own a-s I guess that doesn't matter. This decision is so senseless and not a good idea either.
