Thread regarding Nielsen layoffs

Is there a future here?

Honestly, the more I think about it, the more I come to the conclusion that even if we disregard layoffs, there is no future for any of us here. Nielsen might be big, but so was Blockbuster. If the company's model of operation becomes obsolete, there's nothing that can save it from complete failure. And I'm starting to feel that'll happen sooner rather than later.

No. Leave. Especially if you're young. I started in the business in the early 90s when Nielsen and traditional TV companies were king and printed money! Those days are long gone. The old boomers made their millions and retired.

There's no future, panels are dead and copilot won't help with that.
Run as fast as you can, this company is dead and the market shall see through all the BS.

Maybe there’s a bigger picture yet to be seen, but honestly have no plans to be a part of it, even if offered a better spot.

Having the Nielsen name attached to me is something I used to take pride in - but no more, and feel as though it is an embarrassment and disgrace now.

I don’t even mention that I work for the company anymore, and instead work in “the media and advertising world” while deflecting any questions on who for.

Not for much longer though, thankfully.

When they started eliminating all the client facing positions, that's when the white flag really went up. That's the signal that leadership knows that Nielsen truly is a sinking ship with no hope and no future.

I do understand that a lot of the more software development and behind the scenes technical roles can be done from almost any country by any educated workforce, but the client facing roles are all built on relationships, soft-skills, and yes, even language.

As a client facing (former) Nielsen employee I was frequently on the phone or in meetings with high profile ad agency clients based in the US, and a few in Toronto, Canada. These were for kicking off studies, troubleshooting technical issues, and then interpreting the data with them. But now these roles will either not exist, leaving clients who are paying Nielsen a lot of money twisting in the wind with nonexistent customer support, or handing them off to somebody who speaks little English who was poorly trained by the person they replaced.

If they were even trained at all. I understand that it was extremely common, or even encouraged to just basically ghost the overseas trainees. My boss actively encouraged it to be honest.

I seriously doubt Nielsen will exist as a company for much longer. They've dismantled too much of it and clients are already asking questions/having issues.

No there is no future at Nielsen. The company is doomed and the current crop of failures in “leadership” roles have sealed that fate.

The ones who are making these baffling decisions have no idea what goes on in the day to day here.
