Thread regarding Sabre Holdings layoffs

Volunteers?

Word has it that US based employees were just sent an email asking for early retirement/voluntary severance volunteers.

They are offering extra severance for those that accept. For example, if you were eligible for 26 weeks, you will get 39 if you volunteer.

Can anyone confirm?

Bankruptcy means no severance.

Why are there job postings in US if they want to lower costs and get rid of all US? Are they bogus postings and they will actually hire offshore?

Rationale behind changes in WFA is to decrease retention of new employee, and reason of VSP is to increase retention, which (it was stated yesterday) is below market average. Kinda feels like Catch 22.

My understanding is - fire oldtimers cause they are more expensive, and hire newbies for lower salary (doesn't matter if it's offshoring, or new job market - even in Poland you can pay IT people much less than it was 2-3 years ago). And unfortunately US is the most expensive sites and there is no way around it and that's why you are taking most of the beating.

Anyways, I get the Titanic vibes. Iceberg ahead, but band is still playing. Better to grab something while we can.

I’ve heard this from other sources online as well. I’m sad to hear it, as morale seemed pretty low in the wake of last year’s RIF. My former colleagues have some tough decisions to make. But sadly none of this surprises me. The ELT always tries to paint an optimistic picture, but the reality is certain key metrics continue to be concerning. I continue to think Sabre is likely headed for bankruptcy in the near future. I think anyone there who’s able to take a voluntary severance should jump on that sooner rather than later.

If you don't volunteer for the severance then you are guaranteed not to get it no matter if Sabre goes bankrupt or not.

Take the lifejacket and swim to another ship.

Us Muricans are losing jobs to offshore because the company can hire 4 Indians for the price of 1 Murican.

My foreign ancestors did not take jobs away from native Americans you dummy! We just ki-led them.

Scary thing is, if they declare bankruptcy, I don’t think those who took a package are guaranteed that severance.

You Muricans are so good, so why did you lose with the offshore?

Travel back in time and tell your foreign ancestors to step off native American land. Lol

Come on people! Pull your head out of the sand! We are losing American jobs due to off-shoring and people coming in using work Visas needing sponsorship. I am not referring to US citizens who are not from this country. Just the offshoring alone accounts for 90% of Sabre employees! It is ki-ling our country!

Yep, the govt. should investigate Microsoft, Google, Adobe, IBM, and others. After all the CEOs are all from another country and of course they don’t seem to be doing well, right?
By focusing on totally irrelevant matters, you are giving cover to the exec team who have a history of bad decisions, including bad M&A decisions, whether that’s LastMinute, GetThere or Radixx.

For the person complaining about employees in the US that are from other countries, you have bigger problems. this is not the topic of this discussion. Can you justify your - 10% us based employees? @1cli+1spV6Ygh

A foreign worker working in US is still a US tax paying employee. FYI. For those who think otherwise. Employement in US is not based on whether you are a citizen or not.

Next point. If the % of offshore employees is high enough, company can face problem with the sec

Same Sabre I have known for 25+ years. They have been laying off almost every year since the late 1990s. I remember a friend that had just started working a few months was let go. They had to reimburse her moving expenses twice - once to move her and again to move back to Oklahoma. Her manager used to have an office would close the door in the afternoons and you could tell in her eyes and voice she took naps. Same Sabre - lay off the workers and keep the management who brown noses.

some comments about C level team.. i could not agree more. They are not to be trusted. BUT this does not start with them. On the AirlineIT at least, shouldn't Sammy or Tommy be also blamed?

Sabre is NOT a US company and should not fly the US flag. Offshoring has destroyed the American workers. It probably has 10% US based employees. Even here in Southlake most employees are from other countries.

Someone said they couldn't accept the offer because they had unvested stock grants and needed to hang in there until they vested. Be serious, the company is going bankrupt. Those stock grants will be worthless.

One needs to look at the record of this C-Level team. Under their leadership Sabre has sunk to the lowest depths. A loan that they can never repay, record low stock price, sold the campus, lost multiple customers, laid off workers with valuable knowledge and experience, selling off business units. These guys have bankrupted the company.

It is a great deal for a director or VP. If they have been with Sabre for a year or more then they get 39 weeks of severance. It is an even better deal for a Senior VP. If they have been with Sabre for a year or more then they get 15 months of severance. For lower than director it is not quite as good of a deal but it maxes out at 39 weeks for 15.5 years or 19.5 years or tenure depending if you are more or less senior.

Take the deal.

The layoff that follows this will not be as good a deal and the mess those who remain will be left with will not be fun at all after losing all the US expertise.

Take the deal if you have any sense.

C-level, SVPs and VPs sure as he-l won’t volunteer. They have it made with bonuses - milking the company as it struggles to survive.

When the ELT open their mouth, they are lying. WFA policy was a lie, value for employees is a lie. Why doesn’t the ELT which is all based in USA set an example and take the package? Why do we need so many VPs, SVPs, Directors?

If it’s a SH-T deal then just wait to get laid off as that is going to happen after too few volunteer.

39 weeks is the MAXIMUM. It's a sh-t deal unless you've been here forever or are a VP.

It’s best to take 39 weeks. That’s as good as it will ever get. Risk is another round of layoffs. That’s the Sabre way - a layoff is always around the corner. Been true for last 25 years.

The US workers are being given a beautiful speedboat with 39 weeks of free fuel to flee this sinking ship.

Maybe everyone else should start swimming.
