Thread regarding MetLife Inc. layoffs

we're discomforted by MetLife's 9.3% per annum decline in earnings in the past five years.

Companies with falling earnings are riskier for dividend shareholders. If earnings decline and the company is forced to cut its dividend, investors could watch the value of their investment go up in smoke. With that in mind, we're discomforted by MetLife's 9.3% per annum decline in earnings in the past five years. Ultimately, when earnings per share decline, the size of the pie from which dividends can be paid, shrinks.

Many investors will assess a company's dividend performance by evaluating how much the dividend payments have changed over time. Since the start of our data, 10 years ago, MetLife has lifted its dividend by approximately 6.6% a year on average. Growing the dividend payout ratio while earnings are declining can deliver nice returns for a while, but it's always worth checking for when the company can't increase the payout ratio anymore - because then the music stops.

The Board is too busy lining their own pockets and turning a blind eye to how this leadership is running the company into the ground, while they line their own pockets. Imagine such dire financial circumstances coupled with a botched up RTO plan, that they now have to chop up half of their prestigious NYC HQ to sublease. Black Jacket's heart is full, more like her pockets at this point.

I fear "SLT" has been discomforted by the article alluded to in this thread, mostly because it is true.

It may lead to aggressive belt-tightening, which equals layoffs.

"Earnings per share have been declining and the company is paying out more than half its profits to shareholders; not an enticing combination."

No wonder raises at this company su-k so bad.
