I was an ex IBMer who got RAed recently.
During my 10 year tenure, i saw nothing but customers getting runarounds from IBM executives while getting charged hefty premium for services. Any demands from customers were either met with excuses on why IBM can’t deliver or IBM would do the bare minimum to meet the terms of the contract.
Then when customers eventually terminate services with IBM due to poor treatment, IBM would discipline employees through RA and/or PIP to make up for the lost revenue. There is never any accountability from executives on why customers chose to leave IBM. They actually have no shame and act as dictators. If you ever disagree with their order, they will find a way to get rid of you.
So it’s really funny whenever i see IBM preach about corporate ethics and BCG guidelines. These guidelines only apply to employees who do the work and never the executives.
Looking back. An ex colleague of mine who got RAed a long time ago told one of the clients that IBM would be outsourcing their services to India to save a buck the moment he found out that he was hit with the RA. This actually caused the customer to terminate the contract with IBM. Man i remember the firestorm he caused within IBM as the contract was worth a couple million dollars i think.
One thing he said that stuck with me to this day was ‘There is no such thing as ethics or emotions in business. You have to do what is best for you. No one will help you when times get tough’
I didn’t understand what he meant by then, but i think i do now after witnessing the horrors of IBM management’s actions during my 10 year tenure.
Just be aware. Don’t join IBM unless you absolutely have to. Always look for an exit as executives just view you as a number on the spreadsheet.
