Maybe 3X the money squandered on SoftLayer. The fact that the money was squandered has nothing to do with SoftLayer but everything to do with how IBM wreaks havoc on companies that it buys. If IBM were to buy the goose that lays the golden egg, they would pluck it, dispose of the feathers in a socially responsible manner, pâté the gallbladder (because, as usual IBM gets the culinary details wrong), throw the carcass in the landfill and declare that WatsonX is the new gold.
IBM bought Hashi for ~11x LTM revenue. Not that expensive for a fast growing tech firm but definitely not cheap. The acquisition price is basically the same as what Atlassian trades at in the market today.
Real pain is going to be felt by the SG&A people at Hashi. IBM said they expect the acquisition will be accretive to cash flow by next year, and if IBM is good at anything it's cost cuts...
Hashicorp wasn't cheap
Hashicorp tools are junk - that's why they are getting the company cheap.
Gee, just look how clever they are!
