Thread regarding 3M layoffs

JG 14 & 15

Call to arms: on the 14th and 15th of every month or the fridays and mondays that surround them we do no productive work other than to pretend to work to keep up appearances. 50% effort on the 12th and 13th for the folks they sc--wed before us. Especially during the summer!! These days would be great days to go into the office but use as time to do your bills and chores pretending to work while youre there.

Why stop at 50% workload? And why stop at only 2 days a month? Give 30% effort all month and you'll be just like our leadership teams.

JG 14/15 can cry yourself a river with the loss of your LTI. I was a T4 (same as JG 12) back in 2006 when they eliminated the LTI for JG 12/13. Didn't hear much support from the JG 14/15 supervisors/managers back then. Now you're whining that it was eliminated for you! Can't say that I feel that it's right but I certainly don't feel sorry for you as the same was done for me without your support!

The elimination of LTIs is actually something that 100% aligns with GE's philosophy under Jack Welch.

  1. Force people to compete against each other like a corporate Survivor show. The loser gets booted before they reach full pension age and/or retiree medical (number = 91 or 92?). Then the survivor gets to compete again vs. an external hire.
  1. LTIs only for the creme of the crop (LG15+). Unless you are a Golden Child (remember McNerney wanted the up-and-comers around age 30 to be promoted), you are lucky if your GESPP is slightly in the black. Problem is, even the LG15/16 will be cut off so that more money is made available for those LG17 and up - and so on.
  1. Take away the perks one by one. Tartan Park. LTIs. Pension. WYW is next BTW.

Thank goodness I can watch Price is Right at home and dream about winning that trip to a Greek island with a yacht tour. Well, lunch is ready. Time for a few emails. Then my customary afternoon siesta.

Incredible how leadership keeps coming up with new ways to short change the long term employees. I remember having LTI cut off as a JG13. Then we got years of worthless options. Then they freeze pensions, cutting short that planned income stream. Now getting cut off from LTI again for JG14-15. Making it worse, the decision makers are largely unaffected from these decisions because they're newer hires or will retire themselves before the change is effective. The slaps in the face just keep coming.

JG14 here working in plant. Next time if our plant director JG16 or area BSC director come and ask for projects or savings, I will look at them with a blank face. Let them find the hard way.

Agree, it's a paycheck. Think of your job as performance art. 3M is a declining poorly run company feeding on the brilliant work in the 1970's, 1980's and 1990's. Everything since McNerney has been a farce.
“Remember: there are no small parts, only small actors.”

JG14 here. I'm in my early 40s.

I haven't done much work in years, if I'm being honest.

Most of my work, first as a 13 and then a 14 has been "consensus building" or "aligning expectations," or whatever other BS corporate-speak jargon means attending meetings and getting people to agree on some course of action. I don't see it as valueless, but it certainly doesn't take 40 hours per week.

Why would I ever leave 3M? I'm not here for fame or prestige or even personal fulfillment. I only work for a paycheck, and it looks to be like 3M offers one if the biggest paychecks for the least amount of work.

My job is low stress, because the people above me definitely aren't doing much work either, so as long as I can tell them I've got a meeting coming up on whatever topic our BG leader is hot on at the moment, it's all good.

Doing away with the LTIP will mean a slightly lower paycheck, which su-ks, but until I can find somewhere else that will pay more and ask me to do less, there's not a great reason to leave.

But now, there's also nothing to incentivize me to work harder or do better, so I don't feel any stress or guilt for slacking. Company stock is a wash at best, AIP is a joke nowadays, promotions don't exist and there's no upward mobility.

It's freeing, Knowing for certain that my best course of action is to just keep quiet, ride the gravy train, and don't draw attention to myself.

I am with the team “leave 3M”. I aligned with a recruiter right after the town hall announcement and will be focusing on landing a new job. This year my pension is gone , now LT1 announcement - 3M executives have announced that in their minds the level 14 & 15 employees do not creating value. No pension - because we don’t want you sticking around. Lowering total compensation, because we are showing you the door in front of all SIBG! Thank you for helping me with that tipping point. Today my future plans are to get as far away from this embarrassing company - looking forward to saying “I no longer work for 3M “

Why? It is such a waste of your time and effort even if it is to pretend to keep up appearances. We are better off leaving for a better job, better company, better culture, better leaders! Goodbye 3M!
