Thread regarding Charles Schwab Corp. layoffs

Corporate Update on RTO and Layoffs

They said there are no conversations on changing RTO and layoffs.

On RTO, they are spaced constrained in Orlando and would like to find more space to have those people who want to come in to be able to come into the office.

Layoffs, they have taken every action to prevent further layoffs. They have no planned waves of layoffs after the transition in a couple weeks. They anticipate some natural attrition.

There will be another round of layoffs. We still have too many directors and managers at least in STS and all they do is ask for information and pass it along. What's the need for such managers and directors ?! I would get rid of them and also the bottom performing engineers as well. Schwab could easily save 1 Billion or More.

But wait? Peter said no changes coming and there is no way he is lying. Our executives do not lie to us. They are all about open and honest communication. This is why they laid off the Diversity VP and hired a Communications VP. Right?

I was told that because FINRAs rules for monitoring hybrid employees have changed that they will soon mandate 4 days a week in office

Just as a reminder to everyone:

Two weeks prior to announcing all of the RTO changes, they said they had no foreseeable plans for changing work from home and that it was wonderful.

Anyone who thinks that “no further plans” for layoffs means anyone is safe is delusional.

There are two translations of this. One is that they are lying as they did in 2023.

But here it is clear.

  • No plans on RTO. We aren’t going back to WFH. No news. And they’ve pulled back on exemptions while rejecting new ones. One might interpret this as no five day, but I wouldn’t.
  • People who want to come into the office to address Orlando space. What glorious double-speak. I bet I could find 30% of the existing RTO in Orlando who would be more than willing to reduce or eliminate in favor of more or 100% WFH. Problem solved. Why don’t they ask for volunteers? And who are these magical people wanting in and unable to do so? Are they in the room with us now?
  • Natural attrition. That’s always been the hope. That’s why so many are in fabricated coaching memos and written warnings. That’s why spending is suppressed. Raises and bonuses are down. It’s better for the company to not pay severances. No news.

All indications are that we had another Q1 mini layoff similar to the quarterlies announced years ago.

What will happen when is always a guess when those making the decisions pivot like Ross with a couch. The best thing for all is to save money and be ready. It’s just that simple.
