They were stunned to find out how this worked, and openly wondered if it was legal.

PID owners in WD do not have any input in the selection process. Everything is decided by PDRs with direct input from GMs. How is this process legal?
Why walk a recruiter through an internal process....were you trying to impress them???
PDC is a closed door selection process especially for PSG 23 and higher with heavy input from senior Managers, GMS, etc especially in IT. It is designed for family and friends of senior leaders. No one cares about your skills, competency, etc. It is no surprise that most technical leaders are not technical at all. They all got there through networking...
It’s great if you’re part of the chosen class. You jump jobs every 18-24 months. Don’t have to worry about being competent, because you’ll be 1-2 gigs down the line before the ba--s you dropped start causing problems. Constantly increasing salary. And you get get to be convinced this is all because you’re special, not because you have a structural advantage.
Cvx process is very similar to some federal govt organizations (e.g., military - coast guard) which suggests legality shouldn’t be a concern. Also, at the state level, notice that cvx is mostly in right-to-work states, so…
It’s a great process. Much better than many of our peers. Might I ask if either of you are employment attorneys?
As a mid career higher, I’ve been stunned at how overtly the PDC is intended to guide certain people upward. Every company has its favored stars, but never have a seen a program designed to keep people out.
Be thankful we have a company that allows career development and switching jobs. Some people, in other companies, are in the same boring job most of their life.
The PDC is another tool that HR and our legal group have devised to circumvent the labor law. The PDC is a buffer to distance management from the repercussions of EEOC and Labor Law. If the political winds blow in a contrary direction to the company’s current policy, they can protect themselves through a seemingly fair process known as the PDC for the promotion of its employees to higher placement in the company. The PDC could indeed be such a fair process if the management involved didn’t have to be pressured by the executives in the company or the politics of the day. Simply speaking, the PDC is only a tool designed to cloak or buffer company management from current EEOC and Labor Law if the company wishes to sidestep the law and not be sued or investigated. The PDC process is sufficiently subjective in many ways to accomplish this without coming under fire.
Yes, just amazing because a 3rd party recruiter was being 100% honest with you?
Legal, mostly old white guys, has advised if we don’t promote more lady’s, regardless of qualifications, we may get sued.
Uhhhh. Lord knows no bad decisions ever get made around here with Legal’s input…
Fu--ing nonsense. What could be illegal about how a company distributes jobs? You don't think they have lawyers involved in everything? Why do you think layoffs take 16 months?
Sponsor group now makes decisions independent of BUs preferences. Now we need to hold the sponsor group accountable to production and capex/operations targets, since they make staffing decisions on their own.
