Thread regarding Medtronic Inc. layoffs

Non-Compete Enforcement

How strictly are the non-competes enforced? I'd like to join a direct competitor in a similar role to what Im currently doing. How will Medtronic know where I'm joining? Will it be an issue later on?

I don't think Medtronic strictly enforces non-competes. I left for a competitor recently and didn't have any issues.

I also believe non-competes aren't allowed to be enforced in multiple different states so you might want to look up the laws where you live.

Unless you are in sales or very early product development, Medtronic won't bother (or notice).

But there is definitely a risk of them coming after you. if they choose to enforce, they end up paying you for a year.

If you have taken hiring bonus when joining MDT, simply be prepared to return it, else there’s nothing MDT can do other than B_itc_h and Mo_an.

P.S. The FTC is abolishing noncompetes and banned them, which takes effect in September this year.

Ask your employee relations partner. They will ask clarifying questions and if you can attest there is no conflict, you will be allowed to pursue it.
