Pretty mediocre assets (bar the Permian) and a pile of debt, with a not too insignificant price tag. I don’t think Oxy is at the top of anybody’s buy list. I think the supermajors can do better elsewhere.

They also have Berkshire Hathaway owning a huge chunk of the stock, which probably complicates matters.

The company is too focused on the Permian.

Don't worry, no one wants Oxy.

Who wants to buy Oxy, take on the debt and then sell everything except part of the Permian... Almost as d-mb as buying APC. Ooops...

The Crownrock deal will be perfect to pile on more debt to avoid a takeover.

"XOM is tapped out" is silly. XOM needs to wait for Crownrock acquisition to finalize (soon) and for the Hess situation to clear up (will take a while). After that, who knows. But "tapped out"...lol.

Oxy has the best plan. You really do not want to be acquired by another company. Bad things happen.

Never. We have too much debt, trash GoM, trash International, trash DAC. Chevron looked at Oxy earlier this year and passed for Hess. XOM is tapped out. BP is imploding and Shell has no money. So we continue on.
