Thread regarding Suncor Energy Inc. layoffs

Oblivious to optics, we are Suncor

So just after laying off 2,000 people now the headhunters, LinkedIn and job sites are overflowing with ads for positions at Suncor. Do you really think you are going to get the best after how you have proven you treat employees? If I was applying I would be adding a ‘layoff factor’ to my salary considerations and documented bonus offers.

Makes me glad to be retired.

https://www.thelayoff.com/p/@1wmf+1sJMnXC7 you don't seem to understand the point. The job is not going to be secure and the pay and benefits are not either.

There is a Contact Engineer position for Fort Hills. FI/FO 4 & 3. Yeah right the shittiest schedule possible if one wants a life. @1wmf+1sJMnXC7 can have that one. I’m sure they’ll do a bang-up job !!

Just don’t spend any of the money you get, don’t buy a house and don’t get attached to the community.

As a newcomer to Canada I will be more than happy to take a job with Suncor in Fort McMurray.

I certainly won’t go back to Suncor or Syncrude in Fort Mac. It’s one thing being laid off at a company in a major city like Calgary or Edmonton, ya you got back stabbed and had your career ruined but at least you have more options for re-employment and don’t necessarily need to sell your home or move. It’s totally another story all together being laid off and living in a place like Fort McMurray. In this case you have to sell your property for a loss and move. Or go back to work as a contractor.

I think Freddie and his dirty workers never realized nor do they care that are opening a whole other level of layoff pain when it comes to laying people off in Fort Mac. This community has taken enough pain already.

My word of advice for anyone taking a Suncor job where you need to move to Fort Mac, just remember this company can stab you in the back anytime at which point you won’t have any good options left in Fort McMurray. Take this into account before moving here for a Suncor job and before buying a property.

And to employees who are interchangeable? It took years from what I’ve seen to get someone up to speed in some of these technical positions. At least 6 months to a year getting someone from the same discipline up to speed at the new site. I guess the person who posted as HR didn’t ever work a technical position.

Freddie doesn’t care. Employees are interchangeable. Someone will take the job. Who cares if they are any good … they are cheaper.
