Thread regarding Medtronic Inc. layoffs

Expected MIP Results and Targets

I can't seem to find a lot of information on the MIP targets and actual payout other than the forums of MIP missing payout last year. Does anyone have insight into Target %'s for a Senior (Level 3) or Principal (Level 4) engineer? Do any mid-level individual contributors ever receive stock award (other than ESPP)?

Considering applying for Senior and Principal level engineer roles in the Twin Cities to relocate back to family. Have old friends and family with MDT in production level roles which sounds like has really great people and teams that you work with but is facing some headwinds with current RIF's and senior leadership direction.

I appreciate everyone's open and honest discussion in forums like this, no company is perfect and there will always be a variety of experiences, I just wish everyone and their teams the best as you navigate these tough times!

Appreciate all of the feedback and insights, I think I will pursue and Abbott or Boston before the Medtronic route at this point, while still exploring Medtronic options if others don’t open up!

Yes, Boston Sci has made a nice turnaround. But it took YEARS. Medtronic doesn’t stand a chance until GM and buddies leave and even then there might be too much damage.

On the plus side, Medtronic is now offering free peer counseling after noticing that many employees are a little stressed out for some reason.

I don't know what type of engineer you are, but I wouldn't recommend taking a software engineer position here.

Overall I am looking at several organizations and understand some of the challenges associated with the current RIF's in Medtronic. Most people that I know in the Cities at MDT have not expressed much for impact in their organizations. My plan would be to pretty heavily vet the potential team and hiring manager, but I am open to and enjoy being a realistically optimistic team member and contributing towards bettering a team and organization.

I also have family who was as Boston Sci when it was $45 a share, had the Guidant acquisition to $4 and has made a major organizational turnaround since then. I wouldn't rule that out as a future option for Medtronic at this point either, and worse case feel comfortable finding a new org to transfer to once back in MN.

Have you seen the job market it? It's horrideous. It's impossible to get a job in tech right now.

This company just completed yet another layoff and you want to come here?
Have you read the threads, minus DEI stuff?
Either you love this culture or you have reasons to hate it. Regardless, there are so many warnings here.

Look at Abbot, Philips, Smiths as well if you want to stay in med tech. Bunch of oem suppliers in the area as well, and smaller medtech also.

10 and 15 if the company hits goals and your performance modifier is at 100%

Great to know that RSU's might be a potential tied to the offer, I will likely have to leave some unvested shares and tuition assistance on the table at current role.

Looking into both MDT and BSX as they have major Twin Cities footprints. Has your experience been rewarding in the engineering world? I would likely be associated in an enterprise/corporate engineering realm rather than a production.

You can get restricted stock units as a senior engineer, or at least I did as sort of a signing bonus. $20k RSUs with 1/4th vesting each year. The stock price was super low when I got the award but it’s still low so….
