Well after 35 years of service with HyVee I will be retiring soon. I will sure miss HyVee. All I can say about HyVee is with each passing year HyVee has became a better company to be a part of and work for. This company has been so generous with pay and benefits in the last ten years. Name one other company that offers a store discount! Name one other company that offers Flex Time to use. Name another that offers medical insurance. HyVee is truly a company that cares about their employees.

Kroger Target Walmart do you want me to go on. I worked there for 12yrs and I can tell you there is so much corruption at store level it isnt funny. Motto of most of the Store directors and department heads is what can we get away with that's schetchy so the store can get the most bonus it can get. I had numerous Store Directors that wanted us to lie about what we donated vs what we tossed out. Inventory in all departments can be done where you hold onto product to under inflate gross you can add product to over inflate your inventory No real inventory standard is followed for all depts. A store that looses 1million or less is still considered to be a money maker for the company due to all the warehouses PDI ect.... making a profit on selling to the store. Numerous store directors that threatened employees if you shop elsewhere get a job there since we dont want you hear. I told them all So since when do you have control over what I do on my off time unless its illegal activity. Winning store contests by the store buying product so they can win contest. Everything was shady dealings it was like as long as you dont get caught its good.
That's good that you have had a positive experience and like working for Hy-Vee. Many others have had different, not-so-positive experiences. As far as "name another company that offers a discount, flex time and medical benefits" -- the majority of companies offer those things. Google any Hy-Vee competitor, you'll find they offer a suite of similar benefits, often more generous than Hy-Vee's.
Bettendorf actually is pretty competitive in pricing. The only store in the Quad Cities that makes an effort in the 4 walls to be price conscious. On the other hand it has to be an ego shot for the store director at Bettendorf because he was also over seeing Dav 1 on Rockingham and his pride couldn’t keep from them closing the doors down there. My family has just stopped shopping Hy-Vee it’s just easier to explain it that way.
Many large chains are lowering prices but not hyvee.Their perks program started out pretty good but like always with hyvee it has been aweful with no good buys.I needed Pillsbury crescent rolls,went to hyvee in Bettendorf their price,4.99 then went across the street to Fareway and bought them for 3.68.Cernin needs to be more competitive.
They lay me off back in 2020. So they can replace me with cheaper employees. I work for them for 23 years.
With 90,000+ employees, there are many different opinions. Mine are positive. I am paid well, have good benefits, and have a great boss and team. I've loved working at my store for the last 15 years. I was proud last week to represent Hy-Vee, supporting a tornado-ravaged town in Iowa. Everyone I came in contact with was very appreciative of our Disaster Relief team. I understand Hy-Vee isn't for everyone, but in my town, they are viewed as a good employer and most of my co-workers enjoy the store.
Most big companies had those benefits long before hyvee added them.
Having worked several different retail grocery chains, the last one being Hy-vee for 16 years, and then retired, it was by far the most toxic company and work environment of my 46 years of retail grocery employment.
I worked for another grocery company before working for hyvee.I had all those benefits u described with the company I used to work for.I heard hyvee layed off and fired several employees a few years ago mainly targeting long term employees.Hyvee now has a bad reputation of being not a good company to work for.Its out there that supervision treats the employees terrible and don't speak to them like they are above them.Thats not a good company anymore.
