Thread regarding Alteryx layoffs

First Layoffs Starting Just After Inspire

Following major budget cut mandates of 10-40% across the company (depending on department), the first round of layoffs is now scheduled for the third and fourth weeks of May.

This is conveniently just ahead of the planned June 1 former RSU payout to employees.

Layoff lists have now been drawn up by leaders, with direct input from VPs, some of those being laid off will be attending Inspire, and upon their return will be rewarded for their hard work and dedication to the company with a quick Teams meeting with their manager and/or HR.

Of course, no equity payouts for these folks.

More rounds are planned. All will be quietly orchestrated so as to avoid triggering WARN in those states with WARN reporting thresholds.

There is much to look forward to. Many more people are vulnerable than think they are. By the end of 2024 we can expect the company ranks to be down to the 1,200-1,500 level.

I can truly empathize with people who have retired early and are bored/unfulfilled.

That is how much time I have while still outperforming most of the engineers at the company.

Most developers get promoted for time in seat (participation trophy). Especially if they contribute to DEI quotas.

I guess my retirement is over. I'm looking forward to actually working on fun problems.
Not at Alteryx though. Only thing Alteryx Engineering will teach you is to debate with mo--ns and influence them.

"Those saying the company is laying off 50% are trolling." "please provide a source"

50% includes layoffs + positions offshored? I'd like to think it's not going to happen too. No one is going to name a source here of course. You can go look at Quest Software. Do some research.

Those saying the company is laying off 50% are trolling.
Layoffs are happening but half the company is not true.
Those saying it please provide a source

The leaders in charge are puppets now executing the private equity plan to layoff 50 percent of the company . They have golden handcuffs and will get paid well when they reduce headcount
After inspire they will let go the people and the equity plan will be for top brass only and it will be worth nothing

No gaslighting there, if you read between the lines with what they said it’s pretty obvious what’s going to happen. They are hosting a second all hands in the same month, when have they ever done that?

The only reason to do that is after they lay a bunch of people off, they bring us back together to basically say ‘congrats on surviving the layoffs, this is how it’s going to be now’

The all hands yesterday was legit gaslighting, offered no clear path to equity, you cant put bullets on two slides and make people feel at ease.

why are the people that steered us into this still at the helm? Immediate exit of Paula!

Alteryx: we have the best people and culture!
Also Alteryx: sorry we have to cut jobs so the execs can continue to get multi million dollar payouts to have their exec assistants do all the work for them.
As per usual the exec team is putting on fake smiles while saying they "don't have time for Q&A" in all hands meetings

There are some decent people at Alteryx, but it’s not a place where the best go. Hot shot developers would never work for a windows company and cloud developers can sniff out that the leader has now clue . Good sales reps in data space know this place is relic and has no clue how to make an impact in the real data world . And it’s funny that attaboys and victory laps that are taken after a deal that is really just a price increase or renaming product bundles . Go sell a new product to a new company then pat yourself on the back. P

Yes, it’s called leadership and strategy and it failed given the company was sold for a pittance.

So, according to some of you dingbats in the thread, managers, senior managers, directors, senior directors, VPs, and SVPs are to blame for everything. 😂😂

Yes, the overpaid and bloated do-nothing middle management herd of directors, senior directors and VPs is going to get majorly thinned out of the gate. Confirming that 100%.

Irvine office is being largely sub-leased out, with EBC and associated facilities on first and second floor being preserved.

NYC office being closed.

Overseas offices being closed.

Budgets being cut 20-40% across the board.

Significant layoffs starting second half of May. Layoffs will roll through the rest of 2024.

The layoffs will first target overpaid Senior Directors, Vice Presidents, and Senior Vice Presidents.

Secondly, those with less desirable annual ratings will be affected.

Cutting half the workforce and expecting the same output is a bit of a stretch

Not really. The current team is not effectively managing day-to-day operations. That's why the new owners are requesting a 40% cut across the board. They recognize that we are overstaffed with departments that do not contribute anything.

This effort will entail all offices being sublease. The closures announced yesterday are only the beginning. PE firms want to go completely virtual. Significant offshoring will be involved in this process.

I believe current employment total is around 2,600? How would the company even function with only 1,200-1,500...

It's easy. You can cut Alteryx by half and still produce the same output - it's been said before.

The company hired too many people. There are individuals here who have roles that wouldn't exist at other companies like Alteryx. I know at least a dozen whose work takes them less than two hours, and then they spend 38 hours doing nothing.

What is the severance package? How are they avoiding WARN in CA? Isn’t that in effect for layoffs of more than 50 people?

Confirming this is an accurate portrayal of what lies ahead for a once great company now keeping the lights on whilst squeezing margin. Happy job hunting to all! May will be dark but in the end everyone will find something even better where they can grow their careers. Use your time at Inspire to network with customers. You never know where that might lead.
