Thread regarding Hy-Vee layoffs

Financially Strong

So much for HyVee being in financial ruins! Just bought 22 stores in NW Indiana. Sounds to me like we're on the right track.

They have zero loyalty to customers, and will close a new store down that they convinced hundreds of employees to transfer to. Don’t worry, those folks in Indiana will find out in five years. Ask ANYONE who worked at the now defunct Moline 2!

Working OVER 40 years for a solid retirement, that tells u quite a lot about their retirement plan when u have to work that long.A good plan is thirty and out.He-l I know store mgrs retired at 50 yrs old.Although they were in a different league than the everyday worker.STAY AWAY FROM HYVEE UNLESSU WANT TO WORK 40 PLUS YEARS BEFORE U CAN RETIRE. BAD COMPANY.

I have a question for everyone. If Hy-Vee is financially strong is there a reason there not naming store managers right because the current store I work at does not have one nor do I know when we are getting one. Just wondering.

Love the Euro spelling of capitalized. Shows how sophisticated we aren't.

5 years ago, after 33 years with the glorious Hy-vee, I did go to greener pastures, albeit still in the retail grocery sector. I think I have a good feeling as to what it feels like to be released from prison.

Now to be fair, Hy-vee was a wonderful place to work in the 90's, even up to at least 2011....but when Edeker took over, cracks started to form, by 2014, it was unmistakable, people (employees) were no longer considered an asset; it was about profit, and making sure the corporate side got their cut. Customers be damned.

There are a lot greener pastures out there. I started at nearly 30% more than my pay when I left hy-vee, and am treated with dignity and respect, qualities long gone from hy-vee.

DO ANY OF YOU CLOWNS EVEN DO YOUR RESEARCH OR DO YOU JUST SPEW HATE ON THIS BOARD. THE PURCHASE WAS A SOLID MOVE AND HYVEE IS DOING JUST FINE. IF IT WAS ALL DOOM AND GLOOM YALL WOULDNT SEE THEM BUY S&VT. IF YOU CANT SEE THE BIGGER PICTURE GO TO THE GREENER PASTURES AND QUIT BEING A CRYBABY.

RETAIL FOOD WAS ALWAYS HARD AND MY STORE DIRECTOR HAD TO MAKE HARD DECISIONS. DID I LIKE THEM ALL? NO. BUT I WORKED MY BUTT OFF AND MADE A SOLID LIVING. AND MY 401K IS GIVING ME A SOLID RETIREMENT. IT COULD BE BETTER BUT IT COULD BE WORSE

FROM A RETIRED EMPLOYEE WITH OVER 40 YEARS OF SERVICE.

Could care less what becomes of Hy-vee. Stopped shopping at their stores years ago. Won't even go in one. With a family of 5 now, simply is beyond my budget. Nearly all grocery purchases are at Aldis or Fairway stores. Prices are good, and quality is excellent. Service is minimal, but Hy-vee hasn't had that for years, so it's a win-win for my family.

Where do any of you see that Strack & Van Til sliding financially? almost 90 year old company - they seem to be doing ok.

Stack &Van Til has been sliding south financially for several years now. Keep on mind, with this purchase, Hy-vee gets, the brick & mortar, the customer base, etc., but they also get the debt of that company.

So where has the rubber met the road on all that chatter that Hy-Vee was going to be building in Indiana, expanding into the SE U.S......a warehouse in Nashville, etc. Where is all that stuff? Triple chin was talking about it over 4 years ago. Or did those ships get burned?

family sold that chain because they had financial trouble. Good job on them for dumping that’s chain onto HyVee.

Good to hear! So when the bill's come due they can layoff more employees and cut more labor in their existing stores. Great plan!
