Just noticed that a few GM internal positions that I am interested in are cancelled this week. My guess is that there is a hiring freeze from top down which may affect some organizations. Not sure whether this is a prelude of coming layoff.

Why have a freeze for just 2 weeks?
Seems pointless.
I am in the process of getting a job with GM and have heard from my recruiter that they have a hiring freeze right now until 4-1-24.
That date could change, but for now that’s what I’m hearing.
I suspect that this is an IT problem. Scores of GM manufacturing and engineering jobs are listed on Linkedin.
Is there some kind of transformation happening with IT?
I was told that if I learned to code, everything would work out. Now AI can code much faster. I should see if there are any positions for validation or testing.
PS If AI can replace 30% of white collar jobs in America, what will it do for the job market in India or all of those Eastern European countries?

MTB has to save another 1.5 billion in salary costs before the end of 2024.
We did have some employees impacted by the MSP’s between febuary and march, but doubt that $ was a drop in the bucket for a big value.
IT is probably going to get hit with another Reorg, as Abbott is leaving. If GM moves toward more outsourcing like Stellantis, I wouldn’t be surprised if GM starts cutting their “Critical Technical” talent next. They won’t be needing those leads, especially if work is shipped overseas.
From what I heard from a coworker, GM has reinstated random dr-g testing now. Just another way to reduce staff. One of his coworkers tested positive for mari--ana and was subsequently let go. From what he told me, the person was extremely disrespectful and yelled in meetings. So, if you are a top-rate employee, do dr-gs, and think you are safe, you aren’t. You are just giving them a reason to put you on a list.
