Thread regarding 3M layoffs

Job reviews

I’ve heard rumors that jobs and titles and job grades and market references will be reviewed. Does this happen every year or is this new? I am stilling learning the company, but something doesn’t feel normal right now, or maybe it is and I just don’t understand the culture yet or something

Organized corporate collusion. HR organizations share pay data so that all participants are aligned and don’t overpay. Happens every year.

The A3M has added a layer of JG15+ reporters. They are nothing but just collate reports from plants and take credit for the works. They get to enjoy WYW, and jet around plant visits with free hotels and cuisines. Get rid of this group and you will see there's minimum impact to the results.

Everyone is crying about how bloated the company is at JG15 and above, seems fitting. Do we really need directors reporting to directors? This is an indication that individuals were either over promoted or bad hires. Both of these outcomes are bad decisions by current senior leadership. Hiring and promotions are critical decisions that current leadership does not take seriously. Instead, they just fill to keep headcount and maintain their empire.

Some of the Fortune 500 companies are adjusting wages down for more responsibility. So lay off a bunch of high-earners at Sr. Manager or above and then repost similar role on the external market at an individual contributor level with the exact same Sr.Manager responsibility (sans the managing) for $10s of thousands less. Reddit is riddled with these examples right now.

Compensation Adjustments are usually effective on April 1st. I haven’t seen any update yet.
