They say they are for now, but honestly, I think we've crossed a bridge that we can't turn back from. They are talking about hiring more contingent workers to fill roles so if this ever happens again, they would cut the contractors over FTEs. This is exactly the Nike model. We previously survived a few bad quarters (especially during the pandemic) by being fiscally responsible (anyone remember the"fortress balance sheet"?) Our insistence about pursuing "digital transformation" has led to a huge amount of low business value tech spend and a lot of folks doing work in tech that is not aligned with the business. Add McKinsey and tech leaders not paying attention to what has not worked for companies much larger than ours, and that is like adding fuel to the fire. So yeah, OP, it's going to happen again and fairly soon given our current trajectory.

I don’t understand why my direct manager didn’t know who would be laid off within the department. We laid off 4 people. We already work two roles in one job.

How likely is it that there might be another round of layoffs?

Yes, they completed their reductions. A significant number from CDT, not sure about the business side. Still digging out and trying to understand impact of the cuts.

I'm guessing once they are, we're next.
