I've turned down promotions and then have been asked again. It depends on why.
Don’t turn down a promotion. If you do, you’ll be blacklisted and not be asked again.
It really depends. What I find is that if you have career ambitions for a management role you accept, stick around for maybe a year or 2 (don't overstay your welcome) and then move on. It's a lot easier at that point to score a management position when you/ve already had one. At Ford, depending on the department, you might accept it to deal with the pain as long as you can. Then now that you've obtained that level, it'll be easier for you to score something at a better organization with less stress. Huge companies can't help it. But yes you'll be put on a list of you don;t have a very good reason. Best to play ball if you don't want to stay but aren't ready to leave just yet. If you want to stay - don't sweat it because you won't care about getting another chance in the 1st place.
Advice, don't just say no without reason as to what's holding you back from saying yes. Not every promotion will match your specific career and personal plan.
As long as your open and strategic to how and why you say no then you should be fine.
Ldp on the other hand, your window for selection is very narrow. If you are offered once and turn down its likely your window will close.
