Thread regarding General Motors layoffs

And so it starts...

A month after the automaker reached a record-setting new contract with unionized workers, Stellantis says it will lay off as many as 1,225 employees in Toledo.

This should not surprise anyone given MTB's insatiable desire to monetize customer's data and sell software services:
Your car might be secretly recording every drive you take — and sending data to your insurance company

Customers are going to resent having their insurance go up because they were BETRAYED by General Motors. Do you think they might chose another brand the next time they want a car? All of this data collection, spying and monetization is sleazy and really shows bad faith IMO.

"One Chevrolet Bolt owner who spoke with the Times said he uncovered a 258-page report on his driving habits when he inquired about a 21% increase in his insurance costs."

"Some drivers who spoke with the Times insisted their insurance costs went up even when they weren't enrolled in Smart Driver. The Times cites a GM company manual that suggests dealer salespeople could receive a bonus for enrolling people into the service."

"Putting hardware on the phone at least gives the possibility of getting the functionality without sharing data with the cloud."

  1. The AI hardware will be on the phone? The phone won't be transmitting the request to a server with AI? ha ha ha (Have you seen an AI rig???)
  1. Even if the phone had the horsepower to process AI requests, do you really think the people who collect (lucrative) data on us are going to let it live and die on the phone?

"Everything you said can be done today on any phone."

Today we have Siri, Alexa and Google Assistant. How good are they at answering questions? They are rudimentary web search prompts. They can't think or learn like AI. The data collected is not in the same ballpark. It's useful, but not nearly as game-changing. All of the location and app data is certainly going to be the same -> unless it's going to utilize the AI feature. Let's assume it does. Do you think the data collected from an app will be the same?

It's perfectly acceptable to dismiss what I said in @6kfj+1rnk9zK1.
Big tech and big sister is counting on it. I hope you find AI useful. And the bit about the social credit score and enhanced surveillance is probably just a conspiracy theory.
Enjoy!

PS How likely is it that our cars will also utilize data collection and AI surveillance as well as the intended business case (selling more monthly subscriptions)? The future is so bright, you have to wear Apple Vision Pro at all times.

The data just gets sent to the cloud.

If we are going to start going off-topic, I'll just toss this one into the room:

People are concerned about AI and robots taking jobs.
I just read that Apple is going to incorporate AI into it's phones. Samsung already has one on the market.
What happens when you pair a smart phone with AI?
AI surveillance meets data collection. Your real ID, exact location, spending habits, bank account info, searches, photos, contacts stored in the phone will enable AI to predict literally everything about you and your activities and report it to corporations and governments AND manipulate you in real time.
Once the official government digital currency (CBDC) and social credit score becomes "the norm", this AI surveillance will keep you in line.

It will record how many miles you drive, what books you are reading, what you are buying, etc and use it against you. Naughty girl, your AI-generated environmental score is a 5. You can't buy Starbucks today. You can't drive your car either. Your interest rate just went up, as well as your auto & health insurance.

"It won't happen."
It's happening right now.
