Thread regarding Charles Schwab Corp. layoffs

RTO makes no sense

I was never one to complain about RTO as I wanted to focus more on career development and building my skills. I'm still in my 20s and have no family. But now that we've been back for a few months I just can't wrap my head around why they need to babysit us and treat us like children in the office. I sit in my cubicle all day attending remote meetings because nobody I work with is in my state. But what gets me is that I know about 15 folks on my floor that have the exact same experience as me. There's no reason for us to be here. How much time is wasted preparing for work, driving to work, wasting money eating in the cafeteria? I feel less productive and it's not even close. And judging by what everyone else says in my building most feel the same way.

All because they don't know what else to do with the building? It's difficult to justify working for Schwab when most companies just have a better work life balance and treat their employees like adults

Exactly what @1iby+1reZs51y said.

Not sure if I can file an exception. I am the only FTE individual contributor in my team going into the office every one I work with is remote and the whole team is across multiple time zones. I did get Mets Expectations and a 2.5% merit increase. My Product Owner just left. We have had 2 scrum masters in the past year. Contractors are also leaving when their contracts end. I am very stressed as my manager has no clue about future work.

Yes, yes they want people to quit. BUT - RTO takes a toll - I'm drained when I get home and in bed by f'n 8pm. And the boomer a$$ kissers on this site can just pound sand. For 3 years I had the opportunity to feel like an actual person with sufficient sleep, able to workout in the mornings, was not exhausted by 4pm. I had time and energy to do so much more. I did the in office every day for decades and despised it. Always tired, stressed, worried about making it to pick up kids, appointments, etc. Office politics, bullying, all was gone for 3 glorious years. RTO is pointless, counterproductive and indicative of leadership with zero vision.

Well, it's the plain truth. Schwartz has turned into a babysitting service for employees so they can justify their ridiculous CRE decisions

Nobody on my entire floor works together. Nobody wants to be there because there's no value. But hey I get to catch the flue from everyone and spend 7 hours per week on the highway, which is nice

The grass is always greener someplace else, you’ll understand that better as you get along in your career. Or at least everyone thinks it is. Jump ship and find out.

The MDs who moved to remote locations during the pandemic and now have RTO exceptions is freaking scandalous by itself, but especially bad when viewed against the RTO exceptions denied because 60 minute drive each way SO reasonable.

Heard of the following but not witnessed it

  • Employees calls in sick: Hi, I can’t tell if I have a cold or the flu, regardless I don’t want to get anyone sick and I’m not feeling that bad so can I work remotely
  • Manager: Well no, you have to use Sick Time
  • Employee: Okay, what if I have Covid?
  • Manager: You can’t come in for 5 Days, but you can work Remote

The culture has been ruined for over a decade now. Just leave you will be happy you did. Chuck had it right every person in the c-suite since that man has had it wrong.

The one that annoys me is that there is no clarity around exceptions. I know several directors in SF (making SF money) that got remote exceptions but I was denied despite being hired fully remote and being in the cheapest geographical pay band. Make it make sense

They want you to quit. They will make it as uncomfortable as possible, read between the lines
