Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

Why does management keep saying we have the best people?

Does anyone actually believe that? We definitely don’t.

@2sxl, I do hope for Putin style executions to start on Day 1 for anti-American people like you. There’s a clear direction for saving America, and it’s definitely not with Obama (aka Biden).

of course we do! Which is why a few years back for "safety", they had instructions in restrooms on how to properly wash hands. Also how to brew coffee safely, use lid since hot. Years ago, when girl sprained ankle on stairway, there was later instructions on how to walk down stairs. And the biggest - we hire best and brightest, but, have to tell them how to be kind to others and numerous hours on how we shouldn't discriminate. So yeah, we are the best!

Exxon and CNOOC have the best people considering the Chevron and Hess blunder.

Trump also hoped for a stock crash to help his reelection… what a guy, always just thinking about himself. Expect Putin style executions to start his first day as dictator!

Why make it political…

Also congress negotiated a border bill that would help with the border, but it was tanked by Trump and Speaker Johnson… Biden would have signed the bill…. Smh

But that’s kind of beside the point of this post..

Really? Management keeps saying we have the best people? Sounds like Biden and Mayorkas trying to convince everyone our border is secure. Hahahaha!

@1jwt I EOI'd in 2020 as well. Your observation is correct. CVX is no longer about performance.

I hear they keep telling Hess that they have great people. What’s the guess in amount of workforce actually brought over to CVX?

What would expect them to say? We have mediocre talent? Doesn’t really work well. And you expect every claim to be backed by references with clear evidence and results? Yeah ok, good luck turning a 30 min town hall into a multi hour event.

I retired via EOI during the 2020 layoff. It is interesting the number of younger folks I considered to be the rising stars in my area of petro-tech that I see on linkedin no longer work for Chevron. Is it because Chevron does not identify and reward technical talent or because these folks just get sick of all the management nonsense. Either way, management should do better.

I was a Dreg for 36 years languishing in the ranks at Chevron. Now I’m retired and a millionaire. Brown nosing and schmoozing the Boss(s) over the years paid off! Thanks Chevron for the freeeee money.

Chevron hires good people because the recruiters lie to them and tell them how good they'll have it at Chevron, how fast they'll be promoted, how many exotic foreign assignments they'll get, how soon they'll be in management, etc. Somewhere between year 5 and 10, they realize these were all lies, and the truly "good" ones quit to go somewhere else. The remaining dregs will spend the next 35 years at Chevron.

Well they are the best, till they are not ! Sweet words till you become too expensive, opinionated or someone does not like you, take your pick and you are out the door.

What do you expect them to say?

  1. It is their job to hire and maintain best talent
  2. They have already caused so much damage to the moral, so saying the employee's talent is also not within expectation means a major layoff and more loss of what they have.
  1. Sugar coating is always the method to PR your capability when seeking external investment, getting foreign contracts, etc.

People can say whatever they want under "free speech", but only a fool will believe whatever he/she hears, do your homework and validate any claim, news, comment before accepting it. Remember, every claim is a suspect and untrue until the presenter proves it with clear evidence and results.
