Thread regarding Nielsen layoffs

How many weeks of the dread do we have to suffer?

I am on the fence whether I want to be laid off or hoping to keep the job. I have too much of a financial burden in my life, and the cost of living just goes up. I also expect everything to get worse, from the job market to the ability to sustain oneself on the pay. If it wasn’t like that, I would leave this place and not think twice about it.

Saying that long term employees are the laziest people is pretty harsh. Many of us long term employees have worked in many different aspects of the business, don’t think that because we are long term employees means that we are one-trick ponies.

I’m on to greener pastures now but some of the laziest people I ever worked with are the very long term employees at Nielsen.

That’s why you don’t stay with any company for 30 years. You limit yourself and lose your competitive edge. This is not the case for everyone but lots of people I worked with at Nielsen were there too long and lost their sense of urgency and ability to think critically. My experience with this company taught me to never stick around with a company long enough for that to happen to me.

Never stay too long with a company. The price you pay for that is too high compared to what you got from the company. You lose your competitiveness as a job seeker, and your bond becomes strong to an unhealthy extent.

There should be some legal actions that can be taken.

I’m a 65 year old woman who has been working for Nielsen for close to 30 years. Do they realize the financial hardship that this will place me in. It will be impossible for me to replace my current wages and insurance.

While I understand that this will sound selfish, Nielsen cannot group with a 40 year old in their work life prime.

The decisions being made by Nielsen are business related, I hope understands that.

Stakeholders are just tone deaf with no empathy toward the impacted employees.

If they would be willing take a hit and lose money for a couple of years, they could make this process more palatable to the impacted employees.

They want to see a profit now and have no compassion toward the employee.

Thirty plus year employees that are capped at 26 weeks. Severance cut to one week, having to train your replacement are seen as slaps in the face to people who have devoted their lives to Nielsen.

No bonus offered to employees that stay to the end and train the offshore hires. No bonus to people who will make sure this transition has no impact to the business.

Cold-blooded decisions.

And yes I understand that these decisions are a done deal and that those making the decisions won’t lose any sleep over it and the impacted employees will be out of sight- out of mind.

Don’t go through the humiliation of training your Indian replacement. You are likely going to have to find a new job. Search now… severance doesn’t really matter unless you want to retire
