Hi Team,
Today I’m sharing the news that our EVP and Chief Operating Officer, Maria Martinez, will be leaving Cisco. Those of you who know Maria, know how she pours her heart and soul into her work with passion and enthusiasm. Over the past six years, she has been relentlessly focused on Cisco’s success and building high-value experiences for our customers, our partners, and our people. As Cisco moves into a new chapter with the Splunk acquisition, we’ve discussed that now is also time for her to move into her next chapter, where she can spend more time with her family and pursue other interests.
When Maria joined Cisco nearly six years ago, I asked her to build a new Customer Experience motion for us to help our customers take full advantage of Cisco's software, services, and subscription offerings. Since then, and in her expanded role of COO, Maria has been instrumental in accelerating our business transformation strategy of driving more software, subscriptions, and Annual Recurring Revenue (ARR). In fact, in Q2, we reached our target of 50% of our revenue from subscriptions one year early.
Maria has no doubt achieved many of the objectives she set out to achieve when she joined Cisco. In addition to successfully transforming the company, she helped us build a world-class Customer Experience (CX) function from the ground up. As the leader of ONEx, she drove some of the most important cross-functional company initiatives – from revamping several internal tools and processes to driving rigorous prioritization efforts, and most recently, leading our Splunk integration efforts as we plan for the closing of the acquisition. As COO, she oversaw some of the most complex industry and global issues including the supply chain crisis, security vulnerabilities, international conflict, and a pandemic. Maria has also been an unwavering champion for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) initiatives, having served as our Executive Sponsor for The Multiplier Effect, focused on sponsorship of diverse talent to advocate for career advancement as well as for Conexion, our inclusive community for LatinX.
Maria cares deeply about the success of Cisco, and we can always count on her to be one of our greatest advocates. Her leadership has helped us achieve the strong foundation we have today. She has been an incredible partner and friend to me personally, and I am forever grateful for her counsel and the many laughs we’ve had along the way.
While we face some near-term challenges as discussed during our recent earnings, including our company restructuring, we will navigate through these and emerge stronger. We have not only a strong foundation, but also the right strategy to capture the longer-term opportunities ahead in AI and across the portfolio.
As with anything she does, Maria is passionate about ensuring this is a smooth transition for Cisco and her team. We will share more about the broader organizational changes in the coming weeks. In the meantime, let’s all stay focused on executing on a strong second half as we build towards a future of growth.
Please join me in congratulating Maria on the incredible success she’s had during her time here. To Maria, thank you for all that you have done for Cisco – we are better for your time with us!
Chuck
