How is it like working in IT at KM? I'm considering applying but I've heard some rough things like maybe the environment is one from decades ago. I've heard they make it hard to take vacation of any kind, want you to come in sick and don't care about you at all. Is this true?

Not really. In our department they want you to take your PTO. You get messages to remain you about how much you have and that you need to schedule it. Vacation gets approved regardless if asked 1 week in advance or months. The only caveat if you are assigned testing and you ask for it with 1 week in advance you could have push back, but that is a given.
