Medical Accommodation Duration

Hello ,

Looking for advice/ recommendations from folks who have successfully got medical accommodations approved for 1 YEAR

I’ve seen my PCP and complained about stress , anxiety , depression related symptoms when it comes to commuting to office , based on this he’s able to provide accommodation for only 3 MONTHS max , and hence I feel the HR request will not be approved for an year.

Doctor is fine with a follow-up appointment after 3 months and extend the accommodation for another set if 3 months.

What needs to be done in this case for getting an accommodation straight up for 1 year without having to deal with both doctor and HR multiple times ??

I got diagnosed with ADHD & autism, and my doctor gave me a note for a whole year. However, Schwab only approved for 6 months, and then I have to reapply.

Schwab did not over-hire.

Actually, they did. Whether dismissed as merger overlap, scale up for transition, panic over technical resources or other factors, there were and are a significant number of positions that are redundant and more that are unnecessary. For example, the Board…

Schwab did not over-hire. They are a failing company and trying to get rid of employees to cut costs. They don't know what they are doing. They are panicking and clients are leaving in droves.

The RTO is to get people to quit so they don't have to lay them off or gaslight them into thinking their terrible employees and forcing them to resign. It's just another ploy to cut headcount and cause stress and hope that you will quit.

Try to milk Schwab for all you can. Hang in there and keep seeing the doctor. Act weird if you have to. We will cheer you on!!! Good luck!

It’s post like this about gaming the system that ruin it for the rest of us.

Really?

So it wasn't a game when thousands worked to make the largest financial services merger in history successful while remote only to have bonuses cut, promotions limited, raises suppressed and many given illegitimate bad reviews?

How about when they announced RTO weeks after saying they weren't, only to learn from Walt that the RTO plan was in process for months?

Or that the perfect RTO plan had to be delayed because they lacked space and the plan wasn't perfect?

Perhaps it was a game when they announced that only X% would be allowed and they had to apply every six months, but, alas, there were no criteria for approval or rejection and managers just made it up based on whim? This included telling staff to come in even when their entire team and work function was remote to other locations.

It is a game, but it has nothing to do with you. And nothing posted here will ruin it.

The game is that the company over hired, wants to eject thousands more and eventually have AI and interns providing low overhead advice as the board makes obscene bonuses on spread and asset control.

I have another idea for you. May be you can tell doctor you are not able to p-o in office and it's impacting your health. Pretty sure your PCP will be more sympathetic to that you will get a permanent exception.

Don't listen to these people. They are just mad that they have to go into an office where their manager does not care about them. Misery loves company

Do not engage the ombudsman. Good grief. Some of the advice here is beyond bad.

The ombudsman is comparable to an arbiter. Unfortunately they are not a neutral party and they are not positioned to act for these types of issues. Here OP was given three months by their doctor and Schwab may give three months, six months, a year or a rejection in response.

The ombudsman isn't going to negotiate a longer duration than the doctor. And they are unlikely to advocate following a rejection.

Find another doctor or medical professional (could be a nurse, nurse practionerer, counselor, physician assistant, etc.), one that will denote your condition is permanent.

Reach out to your Obudsman. They will advocate for you and fight.

Were you working at Schwab before the pandemic? Did you have those symptoms then? How did you manage?

Sounds like your PCP isn’t comfortable advocating for you for an extended amount of time and wants to reassess your situation when they feel is appropriate. It does cause aniexty to have to check back in within 3 months but maybe you can ask for 6 months or a year at the first 3 month mark. If it’s a permanent condition then it’s easier to get the 1 year accommodation from a doctor but since you are just starting this process now it’s reasonable for them to want to reassess when they feel is appropriate. Get a second opinion (therapist or psychiatrist) or work with your PCP on an ongoing plan. But yea, permanent versus temporary condition etc etc etc.

I’d ask the doctor what diagnostic code and standard is being used for a three month assessment. It is not unreasonable for a diagnosis to be of limited duration, but in this case if there is no treatment or medication in play it is unreasonable to expect a change in diagnosis.

Worst case is take the three months and see what they do. You may have to renew. The other option is to add other symptoms including compromised immunity or impairment.

Might as well get a lawyer right now for the stress and anxiety and get what you can because you have a target on your back now. Don't expect to stay employed at Schwab for long.
