The 2001 cottage (garbage) grove situation has been rehashed here often. The man took one for the team. Some zealous sheriff and prosecutor baited him into a compromising situation. It was flimsy at best. Rather than fight and likely win in court, he wisely chose to settle to avoid any more embarrassment.

I heard Monish was behind investigating Vale to get dirt on him to get him out of his way. Now Monish didn’t get the CEO job - too bad Monish. Hope Cale was paid off well!
He did more than one thing, and the things he did were straight out of the 1950's. They decided that he had done too many embarrassing things that would be too much to recover from. Think of it this way: he did things that made keeping the current CEO the obvious choice.
If the new CEO Bill Brown is really the visionary he claims to be, then he would be wise to rehire Vale with a nice signing bonus and give him full control over CBG and then groom him as the future CEO.

Sometimes, people know something that would be equally embarrassing for the employer and an NDA is signed along with the private severance package. The fact that this happened last May makes one wonder.
