Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

Is it true that EMTEC HC10 headcount will be less than 20% by 2028

I heard this when two managers were talking about? Is it true? What is HC10 percentage today?

There are many poor managers in EMTEC. I’m not sure why process safety was specifically called out.

You forgot to mention that the past President(s) and Vice President(s) of EMRE (now EMTEC) championed and recommended these internal actions to the Executive Committee even when there was external data showing that 3rd party technology was better and less expensive than internally invented (supposedly) technology.

A former Chief Technology Officer of Mobil Oil Corporation told every employee in Mobil Research and Engineering that they needed to demonstrate two things to him (MR) if they ever wanted to be in management. Those two things were:

(1) Demonstrate the ability to sunset bad ideas as an project leader because Mobil Oil cannot afford to spend $10 million dollars on a "bad idea" only to put it on the shelf.

and

(2) Look outside for technology to deploy in Mobil Oil first because we should not be inventing "ME TOO" technology that we could have easily licensed from other technology providers.

"M.R." the Chief Technology Officer and President of Mobil Research and Engineering was ahead of his time in the 1990's when he rolled out this "We Are ExxonMobil" philosophy to engineers that wanted to be managers.

Spot on.

EMTEC was/is brilliant in deploying legacy technology that other operators have moved on from, self proclaimed proprietary technology that supposedly gives us a competitive edge (even when external data does not support it), or cr-p technology from vendors with whom the STPs have cozy relationships.

Net result, these approaches require an army of HC10 EMTEC & site engineers to support. Talk about creating job security. And the guild will ki-l any efforts to challenge the status quo.

And our clueless management, instead of challenging these practices, blindly rely on the same STPs for guidance.

EMTEC (i.e. EMRE) will remain until we eliminate the remaining CL-28/29/30+ employees in EMTEC. It is inevitable that future engineers in EMTEC will top out at CL-27.

Everything “technical” I’ve seen in EMTEC is outsourced to a vendor somewhere, whether that’s a manufacturing process or something in IT. I’m not sure what kind of expertise is kept in house other than managers who capped out on CL and need a pasture to loaf around in until retirement.

OP, absolutely a big YES. EMTEC won't be around in five years. If you're still at EMTEC you must start looking for another job like right now dude. What the hck are you still doing there?

Valero manages their North American Refinery Operation with fifty subject matter experts in San Antonio. They leverage technology companies such as Technip Energies, Honeywell UOP, Axens, Topsoe, and EPC companies such as Wood... etc.

The Return on Investment for Valero with fifty subject matter experts is identical to ExxonMobil's EMTEC model of 2000+ engineers over 10 years.

We no longer need 2000+ EMTEC employees to deliver value in a commodity world where we have to compete against our competition in the 21st Century.

How dare you all besmirch the name of ExxonMobil University, they support the business in so many ways. Just don't ask which ways specifically because the response could get a little nebulous...

@ajx+1rKvLT1W Annandale is still open? OMG, Darren an easy cost reduction without any impact to the corporation right there. It's amazing that it's still open. They haven't done shlt in decades. It's amazing how they've been able to milk this corporation this long.

Annandale 08801 is counting down. Most people here are managers as they don't pip themselves, NREs as they are protected, REs most are friends with managers, technicians and contractors as they are not part of pip program. There's a ban for inbound move to Clinton meanwhile people are asked to move out to Houston, Baytown, etc.
April is PDS season, get your draft ready, wondering who will be the nsi tribute this year???
